Can someone please explain why do additional alkyl group (electron donating groups) make a compound more basic? In simple sentences please. 😛

Bases ... Lewis Bases ... donate electron. So addition of EDG increases their basicity.

Bases = electron pair donor by definition (Bronsted-Lowry)

Edit: Oops, not sure what I was thinking. So yes, Alkyl groups are electron donating since Carbons aren't very electronegative.

Electron donating groups basically cause more of a negative charge to be localized in one area, thus making the overall molecule more willing/able to donate an electron pair.
