Hey, I have a question....after I complete the 3 years Prosthodontics program do I become eligible for practicing in the US? or have to do an international program for it?

Thanks for your time guys!!

usually you'll have the right to take the licensure exam limited to the state where your program is; better ask them before you start the program; if you want to be able to move wherever you want in the US, than go for the IDPs.

I agree with you that if you want to be able to work in all US states.. you're better off completing an IDP. However, I just wanted to clearify that you are not limited to the state that you completed your pros program in.

Every state that accepts completion of an ADA accredtied specialty for licensure/registration will accept another state's (or Canadian) specialty program for registration/licensure It does not have to be a program completed in the same state you wish to practice in.

Examples: you could complete Pros in Wiscon, or Toronto, or Florida, etc, etc... and then practice in Mississippi, Virginia, Kansas, etc, etc. 👍

Mmmm I see, the thing is I don´t know yet if I want to stay in the Us. Do you think that it would be easier to be accepted in prosthodontic program if I do IDP first? Thanks for your answers !!

One can practice the specialty in around 16 states or so but some states will require one still to have DDS/DMD too. You will have to check up with state boards. If you donot want to stay in US then why do an IDP!

Sorry.. I'm not following. How could this be true? They cannot both allow dental licensure of foreign graduates through completion of an ADA accredited specialty program.. AND require a US or Canadian dental degree.

If any state requires a US or Canadian dental degree for licensure.. they therfor do NOT allow licensure via completion of ADA accredited specialty alone.

Either they consider licensure through specialty training or they don't.

Its logically one or the other.. can't be both.

I don't know either.. Must be nice to have 100k laying around and 2 extra free years to spend re-doing your dental degree.. eh? 🙂

Nice info , thanks a lot...... what about ? you what r u guys doing right now?

Hi
As far as I know, u r eligible to take the NERBs and then can practice directly in a few states like Texas, Virginia, Washington ( around 9 relevant ones) and for some others u get a limited license e.g for academic dentistry.
Which school are u completing from??
