The University of Melbourne will open a new 4-year Doctor of Optometry beginning from 2011. At least 3 to 4 years of undergraduate education is required prior to entry. This will be the very first OD degree outside of North America.

Will I be eligible to become licensed in the US? If so, what are the requirements?

How is the demand/supply market for optometrists in the US?

The first step is for US accreditation bodies to determine if the Aussie OD is equivalent to the US OD. If they deem it equivalent, you'll have to write the US boards like everyone else.

Chances are they won't about equivalency until the program has had is first batch of graduates.

wait...no one else in the world outside of the US and Canada offer a Doctor of Optometry degree??
