EM at Bay State, MA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd like to buy a vowel. Uh, an A please.

Gimme a T! (since I took too long typing my response)

To the OP: if you search for previous threads or just hang out in this forum a bit you'll find a lot of resistance to questions about the overall quality of EM residencies. Most here will say that due to stringent RRC requirements, all EM residencies are of high quality, so fit and the strengths of a program relative to your own interests become more important.

You'll have better responses if you ask something like "does anyone have any experience with Bay State? what are the program's strengths and weaknesses?" Or better yet, "I'm really interested in ultrasound, critical care, and tactical underwater basket weaving--should I be looking at Bay State, and any other suggestions?"

Clearly this forum is a joke. Have fun with your basket weaving and your oh so smart remarks!

Basket weaving? Best do it underwater. With a heliox setup.
Seriously, the best way to get this info is on the interviews thread.
Check any subforum, there just aren't very many threads on each program. Everyone has their own reasons for liking/disliking places, and that is why you should rotate/interview if you want to go there. Base it on firsthand or secondhand knowledge, not on some anonymous internet forum.

To the OP: Welcome to the EM forum. Like the others, I'd suggest that you search the Residency Reviews thread and click "search this thread." I did that and found this review from a medical student who interviewed there, the link is: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=4510963&postcount=227

I don't know anything directly about Bay State as I didn't interview up there. One of my classmates did and he liked the program; the location wasn't right for him, however. Unfortunately, that is the extent of my knowledge.

One of the previous posters commented that the RRC has set the bar pretty high trying to ensure that all EM programs will provide you adequate EM training. As a result, many of your mentors will likely suggest using "fit" as the foremost criteria in selecting an EM residency; I found this to be sound advice this past fall/winter (at least I hope it was...we'll find out July 1 or there about).

Any Bay State residents out there who want to share a little about thier program?

Anyone know about the quality of the EM program at Bay Sate Health (affiliated with Tufts) in Western MA?

All I can tell you is that the heavy traumas get transferred there in the Pioneer Valley. I had several cases I was investigating that got transferred there from Hampshire County (just north of Hamden County).

I do know they are a busy department, but have never been in their ED.
