Hello Everyone,

First time posting, long-time reader. I just wanted to ask current residents which are the best review books to have (besides Tintinalli's big textbook) I am about to start my EM elective pretty soon.

These are some of the ones I have heard about:

Review: First Aid EM, Blueprints EM
Reference: Tintinalli's baby book, Lange's Current Diagnoses and Treatment

Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

Emergency Medicine Secrets by Markovchick & Pons should be at your fingertips at all times during your EM shifts. It was the best single book for a quick overview, differential, and workup. This book was analagous to Surgical Recall which made me pimp-proof during my surgery rotation.

If you're going to be going into EM, then just buy one of the Palm references for EM. It'll serve you well during residency as well. Everybody should have Epocrates, and for EM either get Pepid EM or 5 Minute Emergency Consult.

EM secrets rocks. If you have access to it, take a look at EM practice. it is a monthly journal, problem based. EBM, good pathophys. it is online, have to pay for it, may be in your library. www.empractice.net.
Above all else, just try to read up on a few patients you saw that day. it is better to read on something you have seen rather than just blind reading.

Also-Just the Facts in EM is a good summary of the Tintinalli text.

Good advice above. I kept "First Aid for the EM Clerkship" at home, next to my Rosen's, and I would look up the patients I saw that day. I kept "Top EM Problems" or wahtever from EMRA. ITs such a useful book! I prefer not to carry too much in my pockets...
