'tis a glorious day in SDN world! EM forums, always a distant second or third in respect the largest # of posts on the specialty forums here on SDN, has easily overtaken IM and has now TIED with surgery and its subcounterparts (Plastic Surgery) in the # of posts.

*sniff* I owe it all to you all.
EM IS THE BEST!

Q, DO

And here I thought that this forum was so active b/c the lifestyle was soooo great that y'all had tons of free time to browse SDN. Come to find out it was just to best surgery. Dissapointed.

Well, it's a good thing EM actually IS the bomb - keeps the forum active. 😉

Here's my contribution to ridiculous post-padding.

It's cuz the life is so good. 🙂

So I guess I'm not the only one who's been watching those numbers... 😀

ever since you pointed it out 5 months ago its been my crusade. Think I became moderator to prevent shameless cursing in this thread?!?! BAH!

Q, DO

Everyone knows that a forum's true prestige is measured by the total number of threads in it, and not by the number of post-pads a moderator and it's members have chosen to make in it. 😛 Maybe if you guys spent more time actually working up patients instead of posting all day...😉

I choose to interpret the numbers this way. Here in EM we prefer to engage in conversation and dialogue, thus the higher number of posts but lower number of threads. Those specialties having a higher number of threads but fewer posts could be interpreted to reflect an inclination to go on long monologues/rants expecting (and getting) little reply and discourse.

Yeah, I thought that your interpretation might be correct for a while too. That was before i regularly read this EM forum. Now I recognize that you guys get so many posts because you guys get a lot of trolls that come in here who make "controversial posts" (EM=FP, EM=triage nurse, EM=most popular specialty, "things I learned from my patients" (what the heck is that thread about anyways)), to which everyone who is going into EM and is already in EM and their mother feels the need to reply to. We don't get as much controversy in the IM forum. People are secure in knowing that IM is better then all other specialties. 😉

*sigh*

I guess we should have more posts about "How competitive is it to get a toxicology fellowship?" or "Do you think I'll land a EMS fellowship?" Ah, but dont' forget the famous "What do you know about the Cornell program?"

If you have to ask you wouldn't understand.

Those were all legitimate threads in the IM forum. Anyways, I see what you are doing now, this whole thread is nothing but another post/thread-padding thread for your forum. I refuse to contribute any further to this.

Damn you caught onto my plan!

Seeing ckent's posts on here, it always amazes me how many folks come browsing through & posting on specialty forums that they have no part of...

I'm a regular viewer of the EM, Military, & General Residency forums with an occassional jaunt over to the Lounge/Everyone side - but I've got to say that I've never ran over to IM, Surgery, etc...can't imagine why they would feel compelled to come over here?

can't imagine why they would feel compelled to come over here?

Perhaps because they don't have anyone to talk to in their forum? Besides, who'd want to talk to an internist? I've never met so many unhappy residents. (Of course, when I see them, they actually have to work instead of sitting up in their call room watching the game whining about how they have to "work" for 24 hours straight.)

BTW, how can anyone not love the thread on "Things I learn from my patients." I can just see a similar thread in the IM forum....

Things my patients have taught me-
1) Just because a patient is already on 19 meds, doesn't mean I shouldn't add 3 more to "optimize" his cardiac regimen for the last 2 months of his life.
2) Never let a surgeon touch your patient.
3) ER doctors are glorified triage nurses
4) Rounding provides meaning in my life.

Hey bud, how's things??

Why do they do it? Jealousy - the jealousy of, we don't care! No matter who comes barging in, we don't get ruffled, and we join together - EM is the Oakland Raiders, the "Broad Street Bullies" of Philly, the outsiders - and we're strongest and most comfortable there. We're not constrained by habit or tradition, and we are not above busting each other when someone's talking BS.

Now, if some meathead is going to go all crazy about "we're not jealous!!1!", hey, this is our forum - we're not trolling it out in someone else's!

I think ckent was trying some humor there, but there's a central core of something else.

Are you guys being serious? Or are you guys just trying to increase the total number of EM posts too? Anyways, I like reading other forums besides IM. It's always nice to know what people in other specialties are thinking. Besides, as a fourth year med student who has already taken step II, I don't have very much else to do these days to tell the truth.

Things are good - 98 days left in the 'Kuni, but nobody's counting...

Throw in the fact that I'm going to Guam next weekend for a rugby tournament, teaching a couple of PALS & ACLS courses over the next couple months, and time is going to fly by - I hope.

Just anxious for match day to get here, so I can make arrangements to ship all of my household goods back & start looking for housing...so many things to do when you separate from the Navy & harder when you don't even know where you're going yet.

Later.

Be nice to the internists they take the patients out of the ED for you. Anyway, people talk to me and I'm an internist atleast half of the year.

Also, despite his ramblings. CKent can't seem to stop posting in the EM forums. Sucker.
Let's see if this post gets him to comment.

With appropriate baiting, we might even get him to start a new thread!

MUHAHAHAHAAA

😛

I like some of the internists. They take my patients away. They search for things I don't want to know about. 🙂 (or at least only after they have figured it out....)

and they round out our parties. *g*
