Hope everyone had a good holidays (and didn't have to work too much)

After perusing the threads, I've got a quick question for those interns/residents with more experience and years than I....

Taking into consideration where you live and the variable cost of living, how comfortable do you feel on resident salary at your institution? Do you always feel broke after paying loans, rent/mortgage/car etc or do you feel at least comfortable with your salary? muchas thanks🙂

A lot of it depends on how you live. If you have a reasonable mortgage and car payment there is some money left at the end of the month.

Some residents live as if their already on an attending salary and keep digging the debt hole deeper.

Cost of living where I am is low, pay is average for residents, and lifestyle is very comfortable and doable. If you are a firefighter, the worst part is going to be losing your sweet schedule! That is worth a LOT.

i did mostly volunteer work...so no sweet shifts for me....plus i enjoy being able to work a little bit of everything so as long as i'm not stuck on 7a-3p shifts i'll be happy
