Howdy y'all,

Sad to say this but unfortunately one of our interns had a pretty severe personal situation arise that will prevent him from starting the year, and we now have an opening that we need to fill. Our program director has given us (the residents) permission to post a job opening for one PGY1 EM spot at the University of Virginia in Charlottesvile.

Per the PD, applicants MUST have completed USMLE Steps I & II already, and interested applicants may email their CVs and any relevant information to our Program Director at: [email protected]

Thanks, and good luck to everyone as the year starts off.

What is UVa's policy regarding the COMLEX for DO's applying to EM? USMLE only? The website didnt indicate as far as I could tell

any chance they would consider the opening for an EM-2 position?

The unofficial party line about COMLEX is we will look at everyone that is competitive. That being said, I have not had a chance to ask our PD directly about this.

No EM-2 position would be opening... you would have to repeat your intern year.

🙁 damn! UVA was my #1 for pharmacy residency. Sadly, there was no love on match day. Charlottesville is great and it's a lovely hospital - a great opportunity for someone out there!

Wow, crazy spot opening.

not sure if you can answer these quesitons but..

When does your program expect to come to a decision and
how early would an applicant be expected to relocate and start at UVA?

would the end of august be too late?

thanks so much!

While there is no firm deadline, the word is that the PD would like to come to a decision soon if the right candidate happens along. We get the impression that they'd wait a while rather than take someone who doesn't mesh with the program/residents.

As for the other questions...I think the answer is, "It depends."

Any update on the open EM-1 spot, did it get filled?

Yes, the position has been filled.
