I'm just wondering what's the average salary for an EM physician. From my research, most surveys state around $200K. How much difference between private and academic? I'd appreciate real facts and opinions instead of those story such as "i know this dude who knows this blah blah blah..." Thanks.

I have seen the same $200,000 quoted with the average starting around $160,000.

TRUE story: MD first year out of residency offered position in Cape Cod in small trauma center. Mainly catering to the summer crowd but with year-round local traffic. $192,000 starting salary.

I just talked to a 3rd year EM resident at my school's program and he's going to Georgia in a few months. I jokingly asked him, "So, you going to be making about three?". He replied, "Actually, more than that. That's the only reason that I'm going down there."

(That means >$300k for those who didn't get it. Not bad first year EM attending salary. Almost tempting me away from Gen Surg...)

Wow. I've never heard of an EM salary that high. What does Noah Wyle make?

FYI: Noah Wyle makes $9,000,000 a year as "Dr. Carter" on NBC's ER.

that settles it! i'm going to go graduate from med school, do a EM residency and then go into practice with Dr. Carter. hopefully as a first year attending i can break 2...and by that i mean $2,000,000. i think that's reasonable.

Many Georgia EM docs make >250,000 per year. I know of a couple who made in the 400+ range.

I think Texas also has some highly paid EMP's.

I'm moving to Georgia.

Seriously, though...why so high in Georgia? I wouldn't think it to be a state in dire need of docs.

Kansas City area has many EM groups paying around 250-300 range also. suburbia! EM pays great from what i can tell.
