So I took my MCAT in June and had my score in July. Recently I received emails from med schools inviting me to apply. The thing is I do not even know them. I was wondering how they came across me and if I was in some sort of "preferred" applicant?

Some medical schools have a program that collects information on students who have expressed an interest in pursuing a medical degree. If you have received a message from such a school, there is a 100% chance that you will receive a secondary application from them.

Back when you signed up for the MCAT you probably checked some option for the AAMC to give your email to certain schools.

It is weird, since I don't know on what basis they choose who should be on the list. Or do they have access to my MCAT score? I am certain that I have not sent out to any.

They have your mcat score only because at some point you either checked or didn't uncheck something about releasing your scores. No ifs and or buts about it. They probably want your secondary fee money and you might happen to have some success with them as well. Sending automated emails for mcat scores over X that makes people spend money is very effective in generating revenue.
