email from temple... (I'm confused)

I received an email from Temple titled "Greetings from the Kornberg School of Dentistry". This is what the email said...


Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University. It is our privilege to consider your application. Kornberg has a long-standing commitment to diversity.

Mr. Shawn Campbell, Director of Multicultural Development and Recruiting, will be available to offer you academic advising and any other information that will help you in your effort to gain admission to dental school. Please contact this dedicated individual who will be delighted to help you.

Initially I thought this wasn't a good sign, but after I called the guy looked over my file and said I should have a good shot at getting in. He told me to call back the following day so that he could check when I will get an interview. I called back and there was no answer, at that point I decided to just leave him an email. He replied:

There is no answer regarding your status at this date and time.

So now I'm confused what was the purpose of sending the first email. The guy didn't give me academic advisement or other information that would help me gain admissions.
What do you guys think?? Anyone else get a similar email??

To me, it sounds like a courtesy letter (maybe sent to everyone?); like a "thank you" for applying to Temple, but no promises otherwise.

It's an email to let you know who the minority recruitment guy is at their school, that's all. It's like saying "thanks for applying" they're just giving you a contact person that specifically deals with minority concerns.

I got this email at the same time I got the email for my interview invite... but I haven't been able to reach him at all. I've sent two emails and tried to call and no luck. He suggested I try to meet with him while I'm there. I guess I'll call again today (since my interview is tomorrow).

I agree that receiving this email is better than nothing though - especially with the huge amount of apps that Temple gets. At least they're aware of your minority status
