I have resorted to putting my index finger in a splint in an attempt to make it t-butyl (i.e., too bulky) to constantly be refreshing my Yahoo! mail page.

so, what I am asking is this: has anyone noticed any trends in when email interview invites are sent out? If I don't see any email by noon, can I just hit the sauce?

What I have learned during undergrad is, you dont really need a good reason to "hit the sauce". Stop stressing so much and go drink.

I'm curious about this as well. I've gotten one email invite at 730am PST, and another at 11am, both from back east schools.

Feast or famine is the treand that I oveserved. I got three on the same day, then a week of nothing, then two within two days of each other, now it's dead calm. I think they are colluding :scared:

I know that the one you seem most interested in - Colorado - was sent to me at 12:56 pm... I guess you'll have to lay off for at least another hour every day.

I got it around 3:30. Sorry to kill your theory.

wouldn't already being drunk when the email came in make the celebration just as fun?

No. Schools send emails at all kinds of random times. Even if there were a rule that the message had to be sent first thing in the morning, your email server could hold it up for a while before delivering it to you, so you might get it in the afternoon anyway. But it's reasonable to assume that most messages would come during normal business hours on weekdays. So I'd wait until five PM, and *then* hit the sauce. 😉

P.S. I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate and approve of your t-butoxide analogy. 👍

I've gotten the as early as around 10 am and as late as 7:30 pm. All EST

haha @ the t-butyl analogy..

only science nerds appreciate that one!

Anyways, I am under the impression that schools are going after the numbers studs right now (which is fine by me). Soon though, they will find tons of empty seats to fill. These will be filled by us average applicants. So they will need to invite us sooner or later!! Probably by beginning of next year or so......

No worries!! I suggest you buy an XBOX 360 on Nov. 22 and have yourself some fun.

That's a scary thought, b/c I though they reward average applicants who apply early, then when spots are limited they expect perfection, you know, the whole thing about supply and demand.

they can come on strange days also... i got an email invite to evms on sunday at 3pm est... very strange indeed.

Could be... but it seems like the people with tons of interviews right now are the ones with high GPA and MCAT scores. I really hope that more interviews start rolling in fast here.. or I'm screwed.

So what I can deduce from all of these replies (and thank you for them) is this:

1. I am a true O Chem nerd. I thought about using a phosphorous yillide ala Wittig reaction, but that may have deterred some of those folks who got out of O Chem 2 with Bio Chem.

2. I now need to subscribe to the "It's after 5pm somewhere in the world" mentality and keep my baseline of controlled substances at a respectable level.

3. I need to check circulars for deals on XBOX, especially since they just released a video version of The Warriors--the 2nd best gang movie involving ballet dancers after West Side Story.

Thank you everyone. I am off to shop for a prosthetic index finger....

I've gotten an invite on a weekend.

haha. you're constantly hitting the sauce. i'm afraid you're gonna show up to your first interview SLOPPY drunk.

i've noticed that most people get interviews on mon/tue as opposed to later in the week. just my observations. i didn't take a random sampling or any of that bullsh*t.

Not sure why you need to go to a phosp. ylide reaction. Just use a free radical bromination > convert to Grignard > react with whatever. hee haw

Hear, hear!
I've been told I'm being too anxious, but then again those people have never applied to Medical School...

Gillman sucks, you waste half your starting material. I usually just try to transmetalate from lithium if I need a cuprate.

Oh, yeah. Email invite trends. Uh, mine seem to come on Mondays or Tuesdays. My kegs of Keystone seem to be drunk on Thursdays and Fridays.

It would be preparation. You're just covering all your bases by making sure you begin the celebration well before the invite. That way, it's in full swing when you get it, and you'll be sure you haven't wasted any time *not* celebrating on the day your interview invite came in. Just think how foolish you'd feel if you did otherwise.

Savvy? I'm dead hammered right now. There's still an hour and a half left in this particular day... :hardy:

I am such a dork that I almost spit out my beer at the "Gillman Sucks" comment. Almost, I say. Thank God I am so sexy or I may get depressed. 😀
