I'm sure this has been talked to death in other forums, but we'll give it a shot...

Now that the waitlist game is beginning, is it a better idea to contact schools by email or the old fashioned way? On one hand, email is mighty fast and you can direct to one person. But regular mail just seems more professional, and then there's something tangible to put in your file and pass around.

Any thoughts on this?

First email the school saying you are withdrawing, then to make sure they have it in writing, compose a nice letter like:

"Dear Admissions at x University,

I am withdrawing my application to your university. Thank you for considering me for your class, but I am going to a better place, etc."😛

Have you tried contacting the individual school(s) that you are waitlisted at? They may prefer one method of communication versus another. Schools can have different procedures and/or preferences so it would be best to contact the individual medical schools to see what is best for you and them. Good luck! I hope it turns out well for you.

I just realized this is to "beg for an acceptance off a waitlist" thread...OK, first don't withdraw...😉

Then just write a nice letter, email is a bit tacky and if the secretary doesn't like you she can delete it...🙄

Say something like:

"Dear Admissions at x University,

I am on your waiting list and love your school. My interviews went very welll at this school and I can see myself attending here...etc."

Then make sure you don't put the wrong letter in the wrong envelope, like mailing Duke the letter that says how much you love UPenn...it happens.😛
