  1. Resident [Any Field]
I know there is another thread on this topic, but I was hoping that current Peds residents or current applicants who have spoken with advisors could weigh in...

I asked an advisor at my school on his thoughts on emailing a program to show interest, and he told me if I know a program has been sending out invites, it would be appropriate to send an email to the Program Coordinator stating my interest.

On other threads advice has ranged from "don't send emails pre-interview EVER" to "skip over the PC and email straight to the PD."

I'm one of those people who tends to think every time I email I'm bothering someone, but I would love to hear from other peds people on advice they've gotten regarding this! Thanks!

FWIW, my adviser told me to start sending out e-mails to programs I hadn't heard from but was still interested in a couple weeks ago. I didn't head her advise, because I figured they were still reviewing applications because I hadn't seen a whole lot of activity on the interview invite thread.

Then I got a couple rejections, and decided I should send one to my top choice, listing out why I wanted to go there (personal and professional reasons), and I got an invite the next day.

That's awesome congrats! I sent out 2 emails today and I think I will send 1-2 more tomorrow. I still haven't heard from ~1/3 of the programs I applied to; I'm very excited about a bunch of interviews I have, but am sad to think I will either not hear from/be rejected from the remaining programs. Fingers crossed that there are still invites going out! :xf:

I sent out 2 yesterday and 2 today, but haven't been quite as lucky as other posters. I agree I hope there are still a few invites to trickle out in the near future. I haven't heard from about 1/2 of the programs I applied to and about 1/2 of those are ones I really want to hear something from so I will keep my fingers crossed with you!!! Good luck! :luck:

PGY1 now, but last year I emailed 5-6 programs I had not heard from. They all replied, mostly to reject me, but one did send me an invite.

In conclusion I think it's worth a try. Good luck.

I sent a total of 4 what I thought were well thought-out but brief emails to programs over the past 1.5 weeks- 3 resulted in rejections (the one today within 15 minutes- sweet) and 1 with no response. I was thinking of sending 1-2 more but with my track record I think I'm throwing in the towel haha. I'm glad other people had better luck with these things than me- I just want 1 more interview invite to make the past 3ish weeks of nothing-but-rejections feel not so painful!

Curious how you guys will interpret this
Emailed a PD today. He replied apologizing for the fact that it is hard to keep up with applications and such and said "I am certain that an invitation to interview will be extended very soon. I look forward to meeting you." I wonder if that is what he tells everyone or if my interview invite is coming soon...

Well my one attempt at email was not productive, I got a reply stating I would hear at the end of the week and that was now over two weeks ago 🙁. I guess I was just looking for closure at least. Hopefully places will start sending mass rejections soon...

It would seem the rejection thread is becoming more common than the interview thread. I sent out about 4 emails a few weeks ago- so far I have 1 rejection, 1 interview, 1 waitlist, and 1 with no response. Still keeping my fingers crossed for the non-responder, but don't have much hope.

I say getting 1 interview out of it counts as a success! This process is no fun.

unless they said something like "I am pleased to offer you an interview, see you soon" I don't believe them...but then again I am really skeptical of everything sooo...take it with a grain of salt haha
