Any opinions on the new procedure text: Emergency Medicine Procedures by Eric Reichman and Robert Simon??

How does it compare to Roberts and Hedges??

Thanks!

🙂

Bump from wayback. I've got some book money to spend and I'm interested in getting a procedure book. Anyone have any input on Roberts & Hedges v. Reichman and Simon?

The Roberts and Hedges book has lots and lots of detail, with LOTS of procedures you would never do in the city, but, if you are THE doctor in the boonies, you would find what you needed.

The Reichman and Simon book has less words, but the pictures are great, well-drawn and descriptive, and the common procedures (and alternative methods) are clearly illustrated (better than Roberts and Hedges).

My program gives the Roberts and Hedges book on starting, and I think that is good. I will purchase the Reichman and Simon book second. Definitely, though, your department should have both books available in the ED. You can determine your own preference.

roberts and hedges is great.

Roberts and Hedges is great because it does have pathophysiology, and is written very well. Can't comment on the new one, although I had the choice of getting the new Procedures book or the new Harrison's. I should have gotten the procedure book, cause I'll never open the Harrison's but I thought it woudl look good on my shelf.

There is a new book by Catherine Custalow (UVA) titled "Color Atlas of Emergency Department Procedures."

That book is awesome for to-the-point, illustrated (real photos) how-to's on various procedures. It's great for a quick reference.

Expensive, but I highly recommend it! I ordered a copy for myself after seeing a copy of it in the ED.
