We have 4 months of EMG/NCS and dedicated didactics are during it and unfortunately didactics don't always happen. My goal is to make our experience and education better, but I need to know what other programs do. Questions I'd like answered:

1. How many months do you have and what exactly are you doing those months of emg?

2. how many studies do residents average?

3. who teaches (pmr, neuro, residents, attendings)?

4. do you have didactics before and/or during the rotation?

5. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your program's emg rotation?

Mayo Clinic PM&R - we rotate through the lab with Neurology residents
1. How many months do you have and what exactly are you doing those months of emg?
6 months total
1 month heavy didactics and observing
1 month didactics, more observing, start doing portions of cases increasing responsibility each week
4 months of independent/supervised cases with noon lectures once a week and case conferences every friday morning

2. how many studies do residents average?
250-300 easy (i've been told)

3. who teaches (pmr, neuro, residents, attendings)?
Neuro and PM&R board certified electromyographers, residents give 1 teaching lecture to the group of residents and present a case with review of an article at least once

4. do you have didactics before and/or during the rotation?
see above

5. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your program's emg rotation?
extraordinary learning opportunity here with some of the top electromyographers in the country with an amazing EMG lab, we don't do all of our own NCS but have at least a half day a week to do cases with the techs to keep up on our technique
