I'm scheduled for an away rotation (in emergency medicine) at Emory this summer, and one of my housing options is apparently a dorm at Grady that's only $150 for the month. $5 per day?! You know what they say about things that sound too good to be true... 🙄 Could someone who's actually seen/lived in the place please let me know what it's like? I'm not terribly picky, but I do want it to be a place where I can comfortably sleep and study for a month... and I'm assuming that they won't put me with a roommate, but if you know anything about that, that would be helpful, too. Thanks!

I didn't end up staying there myself, but when I called it didn't sound so great. When Emory approved my away rotation (PM&R) the registrar's office included a list of people's houses that were interested in having students stay with them. Some of them are residents or fellows, so I think they would be safe to stay with. I ended up staying with family, but I did talk to and go look at some of the places on the list and I would have been happy to stay with a resident or fellow.

I actually did an away at Emory and lived in the Grady dorm (Armstrong house) for 1 1/2 weeks. It's OK, very basic dorm living. Share a bathroom with another room. You could potentially have a roommate in your room (like college). No carpet, just tile. I was supposed to have a roommate but my roommate returned to New Orleans because of his family being there (this was during Katrina). Many of the people who live there are nursing students, rad techs, etc.

You cannot cook at all in the dorm, it is a 20 second walk to Grady Memorial. Not too many places to eat around, a subway is nearby.

I did 1/2 my rotation up by Emory so I found another place up there for the rest of my rotation.

You can PM with any further questions.

I live at little five points a pretty cool area in atlanta. I am going to be in minnesota with my fiance for the summer (end of june till august.) I am not sure if you will have a car but if you do, I live like 5 min away in a loft and would be more than willing to cut you a super cheap deal to hold down my place.
Let me know

Thanks for the offer! I actually went ahead and emailed some people on the list that Emory sent. I hesitated to do that at first because I didn't want to live with anyone else (crazy schedule, light sleeper, etc.). But... I wound up with a really great place that's not expensive at all, all to myself! So I'm all set! (And I still haven't heard from the people at the dorm. Hmm...) Good luck finding someone else to take care of your place, and have fun in Minnesota!
