Hey all,

I have posted about this once before, but I have a buddy applying to law school who just got invited to interview for the Woodruff fellowship and I was wondering if anyone on the med side had heard any new news. Let me know if I can still hope for some cash. No debt sounds real good.

Emory is stingy as hell

Safe to assume that no news is good news?

One more time and I will let it go... for at least a few days.

For some reason I think that they let us know in mid march, which would make sense since the class isn't filled until the beginning of march. Then again, I could be pulling that out of my butt.

I just interviewed at Emory yesterday, and I think they said that after the final round of acceptances go out on March 14th, they'll send out invitations to the finalists for the Woodruff Fellowships. Good luck guys!

Let me second this. Deans Eley and Schwartz will try to convince you otherwise. They lie like the dogs they are. Money talks, and BS walks....

I don't know how many people get money from Emory, but if you do they will give you a nice financial package. My financial package from Emory was better than my state school! No I was not a woodruff fellow and my financial package didn't include any merit scholarship. Also they will give you merit scholarship after your first year if you have good grades, so you will have chance to get more money after first year.

It's been a good ten days, any news?

I haven't heard anything. I got in during the 2/21 cycle. One of my friends says she has a friend who already got invited for the scholarship weekend. I pushed her on it a little bit (it sounds more than a little sketchy), but she stuck to it; apparently someone already has an invite.

Hopefully they still reserved some spaces!

when people say that emory is stingy, what does that mean exactly? that emory takes the same info as everyone else and gives less money than other schools?

i'm not sure about the scholarship invite. i heard they would not be going out until the last cycle of acceptances, but i could be mistaken. does anyone know what the woodruff covers?

Woodruff covers full tuition + stipend. I could care less about the scholarship, just please accept me Emory!

Is this for medicine? I know the law school ones have already gone out, but I believe they are separate.

It was for medicine, not law. I personally have pre-law friends who are now woodruff fellows or whatever. This, supposedly, is a friend of a friend for MEDICAL SCHOOL. Again, take it for what it's worth. I don't think I believe it, but my friend was pretty adamant about it. My friend is trustworthy, but it's possible the kid who supposedly is already invited is lying. But I don't see why he would do that...?

Bump,

I am skeptical for sure. The law guys haven't even gone for the interviews yet, anybody that is a Woodruff fellow right now is from last year.

Dude, this is like the 5th bump, and everytime you've bumped it you've gotten the same answer (no invites until after the last batch of acceptances)

another and possibly the last round of acceptances are now out. They emailed them to let them know. So, I suppose this is an appropriate time to BUMP. Hahah.

"they" e-mailed them? Was this from the adcom as a whole, or from an individual interviewer?

My friend says it looks like a form email to everyone accepted from this adcom meeting.

Hmm...cross Emory off my list then. I've been expecting to hear bad news from them for a while. The only interview where I really thought I did poorly.

I heard they will send them out as mail... not email? Blah that sucks.

I didn't mean they had gone to interviews. I have two friends (including my girlfriend, so I'm damn sure) that have been invited for Woodruff stuff...again, for law. I hope they are still doing the ones for medicine; I haven't heard anything. More and more I'm starting to think my friend's friend is full of it.

You know, I highly doubt they sent out acceptances by email. I have never heard of a school doing that, and Emory did say they'll mail the acceptances out. Acceptances are usually through mail or phone call, rarely email. I see no reason for them to send this last batch of acceptances through email.

Well that's what I believe as of now. I guess I'm in denial. I won't believe it unless someone can confirm this or until I receive the rejection letter in a few days.

What is with this "friend's friend" stuff and Emory? How annoying. Don't post stuff like this unless you're absolutely sure. It drives some people like me nuts.

They told us at the interview that Woodruff selection will be in late March and that they'll let the lucky ones know after all the decisions have been sent out (which is VERY soon).

I tend to agree. I think it's unlikely that a school would change its official notification method mid-cycle.

It is possible though, and the pessimist in me tends to believe stuff like this, probably more easily than I should.

The one thing I wondered was if Emory sent e-mail notification this month b/c they know a lot of kids are on spring break?

Emory is on spring break this week, but every school differs.

Having said that, I called Emory last Friday and they said they'll mail the decisions out on MONDAY (today the 13th, not Tuesday the 14th as it says on the paper). Just stay put and you'll get that letter by Thursday/Friday. Looking at your profile, it seems like you're a shoe-in at Emory so I wouldn't worry too much about the "rumor" posted by johno83. Good luck!

Jeez,

Sure wasn't much interest in the post... probably shouldn't have bumped it. Anyhow, I am anxious and I am trying to be a good guy about it all. I really like Emory, but frankly, don't see myself affording the extra 16k a year over Nebraska unless I have an opp. for the Woodruff. I would much rather go to Emory, but it doesn't make sense. If I don't have a chance, the sooner I know the sooner I drop my acceptance and the sooner somebody else gets into Emory. Just trying to be considerate. And have you ever tried emailing/calling those guys? They are a touch busy I understand.

I am surprised I am getting bashed for reporting news. My friend got an email today notifying her of an acceptance and that letters were mailed. It was a non-specific form letter so she assumed it went to everyone. There is no way to know though because emails such as this are always sent via BCC to protect people's information. I simply assumed you would like to know this since a few of you are still waiting. Sorry if I caused any added stress.

It's ok. It's just that the way you said it the first time, it sounded really unconvincing. And also like I said, they never sent out acceptances through email first so it was kinda odd. But I guess it's true... 🙁

Seems like more people would be reporting this on SDN...I wonder how much of the class was yet to be filled.

Sorry for bumping this over and over I still can't get this out of my head BUT yes... that's what I was thinking also. They said they had plenty of spots to fill unless Erica flat out lied to us. If they did have plenty of acceptances to give, someone on SDN would've posted about their acceptance today if they received the news over email. Maybe that girl john's talking about emailed Emory to ask about her status and she's just a special case... HOPEFULLY *sigh*

Good thinking--maybe shes on spring break and since she can't check her mail, she requested email contact.

Uggh. Listen to how pathetic we are. How seriously should we take this sort of stuff, anyway? No offense to JohnO, but he could be a 56-year old transvestite living in Kansas for all we know. Maybe its best to just wait on our letters.

Or we could spaz out like the OCD, type-A nutjobs that we all are.

Hehe I totally understand you. You made me feel 100x better though since I know I'm not the only one totally going nuts over this. Don't be so harsh on john, he prolly thought everyone got the email if he/she has been accepted or something. 😉 Lets just put this to rest for now and give it a few more days. Good luck to you eastsidaz.

So if the acceptances were mailed today I would get mine tomorrow (I'm in atl) but I'm not getting home till probably 11pm! I'll be a nervous wreck all day, albeit not as nervous as I was for the last Emory mailing (before I got my EVMS acceptance.)

Good luck to all! :luck:

Think about it. There are a whole bunch of people sitting around, hoping that Emory letter shows up in the next day or two, because otherwise we're all SOL. Then comes the possibility that we may already be SOL b/c Emory decided to change their notification method? Of course we're going to (a) freak out, (b) try to convince ourselves that this is incorrect.

Hi Guys,

Acceptances were sent out yesterday via email to give people time to make plans for the Revisit weekend in April. The email said:

Please note: we don’t usually send a notification of acceptance by email, however we want you to have time to consider coming back to Emory for a second look. Your official acceptance letter packet is in the mail.

I'm sorry to bring bad news for those of you who are still waiting 🙁

Good luck to all of you.

Hey folks,

I am not sure if they have notified all the finalists about the Woodruff Fellowship , but I got the call from Dr. Schwartz today. "Woodruff Weekend" is next Friday, March 24th. Good luck to everyone waiting!

Well, some lucky waitlister will be happy in about 1 week. Congrats on the call!
