Emory?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ouch. That's a lot lower than I thought. Dear Emory, please let me in.

2.54:1? Thats actually not bad at all. Most schools are between 2:1 and 3:1, Harvard is the lowest with 1.5:1 and Mayo right after that I believe.

Has anyone been "passed over" one round of acceptances, and given an acceptance the next? Most people I know heard the round immediately after their interview, so I was just curious. I'm starting to wonder if they really review your file each time.... or just choose from that batch of interviewed applicants, and then will do one last BIG review of everyone before the March round of acceptances.... But then again, maybe I'm just wishful thinking...

My friend got in on the 2nd decision date after his interview... (not the first, even though there was 3+ weeks between interview and first date).

When did they interview? Because from what I can surmise from both MDapps and SDN accepted posts, they have had only had 2 rounds of acceptance (early november, mid december), even though the sheet they gave me at my interview suggested that they should have had three by the end of 2006. So I don't know whether anyone has actually gotten passed over and accepted later in the season, since we don't really know for sure when their decision dates are, since someone posted an acceptance on December 18th, when the sheet they gave me said they wouldn't even send that "round" until December 19th. So, I don't think we know when their true decision dates are.

Ok then, I think then he got in on his first decision date then, if my account is correct. According to SDN and MDapps, there have only been the two acceptance dates, early november and mid-december. Your friend interviewed after the first one, and got accepted the next round available. So, Richspiders, it looks doubtful that anyone has been passed over and accepted later.

I think it's quite likely that you can get accepted the second or third time if you didn't get accepted the first round. Because if you look at mdapps not that many ppl that have interviewed have been accepted, and more importantly I think most of the top applicants have already interviewed and the people they are interviewing now are, overall, not quite as compeitive (they probably got the more competitive interviewees in first. But as discussed above they have like a 2.5 turnover ratio so they probably use the waitlist alot. Partially because I think emory is kind of a back up for the top notch applicants who want to go to yale or harvard.

there have been 3 rounds of acceptances according to the letter they gave me when i interviewed: Oct 31, Nov 21, Dec 19. Plus the next round of acceptances is on January 30, 2 days and seeing as people said they mailed it out early last time, here's a good luck to all! cuz it might be in our mailboxes tomorrow

I just got a huge urge to :barf:

I don't think so, that is my whole point. If you look at the SDN accepted thread, and look at the mdapps of accepted people, it is pretty clear there have only been 2 rounds so far. I think they were unable to fit a meeting in before the Thanksgiving holiday or something, and just grouped it all together in December. I remember Erica Black said that sheet was just a guide, anyways, so it is likely that an adcom made of humans has had delays and isn't strict to those guidelines. It seems unlikely that they actually had a round in late november, since not one SDN or MDapp reported receiving one around that time.

And I didn't mean to say that you can't get an accept after being passed over, I was just saying that it is unlikely NWA's friend got in after being passed over (got in their first time, IMO), so as of right now I don't think anyone has gotten in after being passed over.

The kid in the lab down the hall from me got his acceptance letter on November 22nd. They definitely did have three rounds of acceptances already.

anyone hear from them yet?

If I was to hear from them 🙂luck: ) I'm sure it would be closer to the end of the week as letters are tentatively scheduled to go out tomorrow. Best of luck to those who are patiently waiting like me!😀

Their last acceptance round was Dec 19, but many people started receiving their acceptance packages a day or two earlier in the mail. I am wondering if anyone has received an acceptance from the most recent decision date (Jan 30, I think), or if Emory is backlogged and has yet to send them out. Does anyone know? Thanks!

i'm guessing last time things went out earlier due to the holidays

Dang still nobody heard from Emory?! Maybe somebody should call them

Just checked the mail and I've got nada. I'm really really hoping I get in... Emory is my dream school. Although, I think I may have bombed my interview... who knows though...

Anyone hear some good news yet?

yeah i just checked my mail too and i have nothing. maybe sometime later this week...

No need to do that yet. They were supposed to be mailed out yesterday. That means they might get to some people by tomorrow or Friday.

'supposed to'? are you looking at that sheet they gave us? Because that is a set of tentative dates.

Good luck to all of you. Apparently the second look is April 19-20 which is Thursday and Friday. I find this pretty strange, as most of the others seem to be actual "weekends." I don't see why they'd do this when I'm sure many people have finals around then or have to take time off for a job... Oh well, it should still be fun. :luck:

Well either they haven't mailed them yet or nobody on SDN got in this round.

Haha, I like to be optimistic. It keeps me running to my mailbox everyday with renewed hope. Let's just hope that Emory hasn't sent out this batch of acceptances yet.

man, i definitely thought it would at least be today if i heard any news. does anyone know if you get a letter saying your application is continuing to be reviewed if you don't get accepted this round?

According to Erica Black in the Admissions Office, only accepted students will hear anything from them in the next month or so. If you don't hear during this round, then your application will come up for review again when they make their next decisions. In March, however, everyone who has interviewed there is rendered a decision of sorts. You'll know by that time whether or not you've been accepted, waitlisted, or rejected.

Nobody this round??? Geeze...

based on anecdotes of people who previously applied.... it's either an acceptance or waitlist post interview... hopefully next month will be better for us

Isn't Erica Black just fabulous?😍

would anyone who got the letter mind sharing the date of their interview?

I overheard her say she reads SDN -- are you guys sucking up? 😉

Nah, I've already been accepted. If I go to Emory though, I'm totally starting a facebook group. If she's reading this, Hi Erica...

is there any consensus if they are done giving out interview invites? :/

On second thought, yes, I am sucking up. Can anyone say Woodruff fellowship?

Speaking of which, have they already been decided on?

to those who got in today, where are you from? still hoping mine comes tomorrow

good question. although I didn't receive anything today, i'm musing over the possibilities of tomorrow. did anyone else get something in the mail today?

I was just thinking about that today! My student interviewer e-mailed me yesterday (I definitely wasn't expecting to hear from him because I was accepted way back in December, but it's ok because he's really cute and I kinda developed a crush on him during the 3 hour tour 😍 ). Anyway, I asked him if I should send updates and stuff to show that I was interested in merit scholarships and he said to e-mail Erika. It's on my to-do list for tomorrow.

That would be so sweet. 🙂 I haven't heard anything about whether they'd decided on potentials yet -- they said about 15 interview for 5 fellowships, correct? The one bad thing is, I think you have to keep a 3.0. I don't think that would be that hard necessarily, but then again I can't say until I'm in the thick of it. Adding more pressure is sucky.

wait so people already got accepted today? aaaaaaaaaaah! where's my loving? nothing in my oven. hahhaha and it's so close to valentine's day too. i live in tennessee which is close to georgia so ....hopefully not long if i get it at all.

Man I'm so jealous of everybody who's interviewed. Why doesn't Emory want me? I love them! Do you guys think I have any chance at an interview still? I sent a juicy update letter and a sort of begging email saying why I love Emory and would be really happy there. No dice.

I'm waiting as well... :luck:
