this whole semester I have been on the borderline with all my classes with grades!

Physics-b/w B/C (B for most semester)
Chem B/C
Nutrition A/B
Biology A/B

Then get in a Car accident halfway through the semester + get mono for 2 weeks + overall stress of finals + me being dumb to take a full Load and
the Final Grades aRe:

Physics-C
Nutrition-B
Biology-B
Chemistry-D

i have spent a good part of this morning crying my eyes out (yes im a girl)
and upset at the C i got (blaming myself)
Now I have to retake chem in the fall (this is the second half of chem)
And I am just CERTAIN that I will NEVER be able to make it to dental school!
Mind you the physics/bio were retake classes so I look bad enough already!

Is there ANY chance for me? To be honest, I am exhausted and frustrated with my self and have little self faith at this point. Has anyone been in my shoes? I just feel that if i am having difficulty in cc classes, imagine the stress of dental school (but that Is Something I WANT to have)

What do i do? Should i stop myself from a dream that wont happen? Or continue to fight?

Just sit an think:

did you do your ABSOLUTE BEST and still got those grades?

If yes, then stop blaming yourself. If not, then why the heck not? TRY HARDER. You have to do great in DAT and also you need one heck of a personal statement. You have to convince the admission committee that you are the right material.

you need to carefully evaluate what went wrong and change strategy. Do not lose hope. There are not rules for getting in. Everybody has a different story. I have seen people with low GPAs who made it.

there are usually sections on the applications that say something like, "use this space to explain any extenuating circumstances that effected your academic performance." Make sure you you remember all the details to add to this part. But other than that, rock the DAT, and make yourself stellar in all other fields, and you'll be sitting in the same boat as everyone else.

what about the overall gpa for these classes?
does the admission committee take the average grades of the repeated classes or the new grade only into effect?

cuz ive repeated alot of my science:

Bio D --> A
Phys D--> C
Chem 2b D--> Summer Retake 2010

Don't worry, A lot of students have upsets for one or two semesters during their undergrad. It is a lil bit serious that some of the classes are a second retake, but if you show a trend of doing better the following semesters you should be okay!

I dont know if youre a freshman or sophomore, but if you are just make straight A's your junior and senior year. Plan carefully, and maybe and take a few extra courses to boost your science GPA!

but how do dental schools look at the two grades for the course? do they average it or take the highest one into account?? im retaking it this summer

Did you say that you received these grades in community college? Before you move forward, it is my understanding that DS don't look favorably on CC, so you might have to take these core classes at a 4 year university...this could either help you if you do better, or hurt you if you do worse (Most believe CC is a bit easier that what you will find at a 4yr)

I might give up if I didn't care too much about becoming a dentist. But since I really want to become a dentist, I study harder with greater diligence. Why? Because that is what it takes. However, if I honestly try my best, sacrificing time and mental strength and still make below mediocre grades, it would be the most logical and cut throat idea to consider a different career path.

If one were truly dedicated to becoming a professional, one would not whine about shortcomings.

Dental schools will factor in both GPAs. So if you retake a C course, you better be damn sure you will make an A the next time. Don't give up hope, keep trying harder and like others said, make the rest of your application stellar and rock the DAT

First off: take a deep breath.
What the previous posts have said, did you think you have tried your best?
If not, then try harder.
Other than that, just move on and focus on the next semester.
The key is to build an UPWARD trend.
Hope this helps.

Don't keep trying to play the catch up game. I have a friend that kept re-taking classes, on top of his regular classes and he would just crash and burn. You are already behind so just stay focused, take 12 units at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. Protect your GPA, it is very important that it remains above a 3.0 and even then it is on the low side.

Take summer school, don't pile all the hard classes into one, like Ochem, biochemistry and physics into one quarter/semester.

A few bad quarters will not ruin your dental dream, but you really have to show dedication and a strong upward trend. Dental schools accept students that they believe-based on past experience DAT/GPA- can successfully complete their program.

Sure, dental school will not be anything like 12 units a quarter, but it will get your foot in the door 🙂 dream big!!!

Just wanted to comment on your cool name!
DOTA is the way of life 🙂

And to OP, many people stumble in their academic careers, it's important to get up and continue fighting... i don't think you have lost that much, if you can do well in your final year and pull off a good DAT score, you still got great chances.
*You have the luxury of retaking classes... my school has a rule that doesn't allow retake as long as you have passed.
