Is this very common in pharmacy? I was looking at some applications and it basically states that employment can be terminated at any time by either party with or without cause. That just sounds very harsh and that was the first time that I've seen it worded on an application.

every job i've had has been at-will...i'd say it's common (and depends on if you're in an at-will vs. right to work state).
