Employment while in optometry school???

This forum made possible through the generous support of
SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I held a part time optometric assistant job during the first two years of Optometry school. I worked weekend days, and probably could have worked an afternoon shift during the week if scheduling classes and labs permitted. I tapered off work the second semester of second year in preparation for clinical practical assessment, and didn't pick the job back up 3rd year because I wanted to spend the weekends with my wife.

I only did work-study for crappy pay. I couldn't handle anymore...unless you REALLY didn't want to have a life. Then again, if you can read super fast and have a very good photographic memory..have at it!

tbh, i think once enrolled into a graduate school, one should have some standards. There really is no point of working if you will get paid <$25.

Many will just have work study during school and not any kind of a real part-time job. You will be pretty busy, don't fool yourself into thinking that you will have plenty of time for a job too. If you think you can handle it go ahead and try it out. It may not make much of a difference though because you won't be able to work many hours. As in the post above, they just worked weekend hours and that was it, not much. I think most opt students find it too difficult to hold a job though.

I had 2 part time jobs all thru opt school. It is very possible if you are good at time management.

Sure you could, but jeez, you better be making good money for it to be worth it! Work study at PCO pays 10 bucks an hour. I think that time is much better spent working out, taking a nap, or studying.

work study is probably the best since there usually on campus
