To me, EMR = electronic medical record and I'm sitting here wondering why anyone would pay $250 to sit for multiple hours to learn how to use EPIC. 😛

Why do you want to learn to be an emergency responder? Are you going to do anything with it? Join EMS? Become an EMT? Just getting the training and not doing anything with it is a waste of money.

I got EMR certified because it was free at my school. If you have an EMS club that you can join if you are EMR certified then maybe it is worth it. We have an EMS club that does first aid response at all the school events.

Basically the first thing the instructor said was that EMR can serve a similar function as EMTs if you live in the middle of nowhere, but in cities EMRs can't do anything really. I would only be able to help someone who happened to have a medical crisis near me and then as soon as EMTs arrive, get out of the way. I learned some interesting things and legal stuff that I didn't know before. We did some cool patient simulation stuff. But in the end it's not really useful unless you actually get to use the skills on patients. So I wouldn't recommend it if you are not in a rural location or if your school doesn't have some sort of outlet for you to use the skills
