I'm a 3rd year med student planning on going into EM and was wondering if it is worth it to pay $55 to join the EMRA/ACEP now... I've already joined the AAEM as a student member.
Any suggestions?!?!?!

It's absolutely worth the money. It looks great on your CV, but more importantly you get some good benefits. The Annals is a good way to keep up to speed on current research topics which helps as a student. Plus the items available for puchase (EMRA ABX guide, airway card, etc.) will almost pay for your membership if you purchase them.

Just my $0.02. 👍

😀Thanks so much! I'm joining right now!

Whew, we had to twist your arm there! 😉

I do think it helps your CV because it shows that you want to be current with issues affecting emergency medicine. I don't remember if you get the EM newsletter as a student, but hopefully you will.

Well, yeah, I put up a hard fight when I need to...
I was basically trying to figure out if I needed to join both (AAEM and EMRA/ACEP), and was just hoping for an answer one way or another.

i just bought PEER VII and if you are an EMRA member the price is literally $100 cheaper... so my membership has already paid itself... i also recieved a EM handbook for free with my membership as well, which was pretty cool 😀

Wow, and I thought I was premature in buying a copy of Tintinalli a few months ago to read in my spare time. What are you doing with PEER VII, studying for the inservice in about a year?!

I do agree that ACEP/EMRA membership pays for itself very quickly as a student member. You get Annals, EM Resident, ACEP News, plus lots of random freebies.

I looked at their site awhile back, and again after this post - how do you sign up? Is it through the ACEP website? Does the $55 get med students membership until internship, or does it have to be re-upped annually?

Try this site and do the Student eApplication (http://www.emra.org/emra_about.aspx?ekdir=2042&id=29792)
The $55 looks like per year... but I think you could buy a cheaper 2yr...
Good luck!🙂
