Anybody have personal experience doing EMT training in Manhattan (or nearby)? I would really like to run with my school's EMS team, but I need to get trained first. I know there's community colleges and such, but their schedules are just not working for me right now, and something that is spaced out over the semester with <10 evening hrs/wk would be ideal. Anyone?

I'm also having a hard time finding a good EMT course... the ones I can find require too big of a time commitment: two three hour sessions twice a week plus a three hour lab once a week. is it *ever* broken down into smaller sessions stretched out over a longer period of time?

There should be a part time course at your local community college. Don't you guys have one?

If your course is anything like mine, you may have early/late days. We had a 3x 4 hour set-up every week, IIRC, but we'd be there for 2-3 hours usually, and sometimes we'd just come in, say hi, take a test (30 minutes for me because I'm one of those breezy speed-reading test takers, and these aren't MCAT questions X_X) breeze through a practical exam (30 minutes) and then go home.

Your best bet would be to ask the instructor how likely you'll be there the entire time, due to other commitments. Since EMT is usually an 8-credit course, they should have no problem telling you how long it really is.

😱

I am currently taking 15 credits per semester. If I am also taking an EMT-B course, would that mean I am taking 15+8=23 credits this semester?

Lawls. Am I the only one that took the entire course in a month?

I think it was what? Something like 10 hour days for 6 days a week? I might be including unofficial practice time... but yeah. Painful.

i live out in suffolk, about an hour and a half from manhattan. i joined a local ambulance company, and they post information on different classes throughout the area. the classes are not through school. you don't get credit. it's 70 bucks if you're a volunteer at an ambulance/fire department. 300 bucks if you're not. my class started in early september and ended in march. it was every sunday for about 6 hours. most of the time you get out early. considering you are pre-med, you should be able to breeze right through the material, like i did. there are also classes offered three hours a day, twice a week.
