I thought it would be nice to have a thread that has encouraging stories, quotes, or just words of encouragement. The pre-pharm process can be stressful and discouraging at times. Sometimes just hearing a few words to lift your spirit can make the difference in a horrible day and a good one. So, please post some encouraging words here. If no one participates, then I will post daily or atleast every other day. 😉 Remember, sometimes if you want a blessing, you've got to be a blessing to someone. 🙂 So, come on guys, get your blessings!! 😀

I'll start:

Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. Difficulties must be studied and dealt with, but they must not be magnified by fear. - Norman Vincent Peale

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Rules of the road: What appears to be a detour may be the most important part of the journey.

Smile - put a spring in your step & a song in your heart - for the best is still ahead of us!

Thanks for the encouraging words...great post. I need some encouragement right now because I have a lot of unknowns swirling in the air including an email I just received from an admission's committee that I am too afraid to open for fear that it is a "rejection email." The generic subject line scares me.

Anways....here is my encouragement to others:

"Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning"

I take this as, even though situations may be tough and disappointment will inevitably cross each of our paths, a brighter day will come if we just hold on and stay strong!

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13

great post 👍

If God is for me who can be against me.. failure is success turned inside out you just have to turn it again.. dust yourself off and try again there's a miracle in store....

Miyagi: Now, ready?
Daniel: I guess so.
Miyagi: [sighs] Daniel-san, must talk. Man walk on road. Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk down middle, sooner or later, get squished
[makes squish gesture]
Miyagi: just like grape. Same here. You karate do "yes," or karate do "no." You karate do "guess so,"
[makes squish gesture]
Miyagi: just like grape. Understand?
Daniel: Yeah, I understand.
Miyagi: Now, ready?
Daniel: Yeah, I'm ready.

lol. The only one that I have to contribute is "Without rainfall there would be no rainbows" or something cheesy to that effect.
Just hang in there!!! 🙂

The good Lord never gives you more than you can handle ... unless you die of something.

Thanks for posting guys! This thread is going to help some ppl. 🙂

*Don’t be a cloud, just because you can’t be the star.

*Cutting remarks, won’t carve your way to success.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good………….

Paul doesn’t say all things are good, but he does say that all things work together for good. The choice is ours when things don’t go the way we want or plan, we can have a negative attitude, or adjust to the situation and trust that God has something better planned.

TODAY: Drop the negative and focus on the positive, focus on the blessings.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

All too often we tend to focus on what’s wrong in our lives that we forget to notice what’s going right.

We are known by our actual deeds not by what we boast we can do.

The very best thing you can do is to get very good at being you.

Life is not about how fast you run, or how high you climb;

But how well you bounce.

HAVE A GREAT DAY……

Here's some words of encouragement for those who are worried about the PCAT and how it will look to schools. I got an interview to MWU-Glendale with a 43. That should help all of you 70-80 rangers who say "I know no school will even look at me because of my PCAT score" feel a lot better.

Thanks. That is very encouraging to me. 🙂 I'm scared of the PCAT! :scared:

There's nothing to be afraid of.. take it, do your best and move along! just have a well-rounded application and it won't make any difference

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

Don't let life overwhelm you. Take it one day at a time & one prayer at a time.

If we believe in a God who controls the big things, then we have to believe in a God who controls the little things. It is we, of course, to who things look little or big. "I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that day." 2Timothy 1:12

God, give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed. Give us courage to change what should be changed. Give us the wisdom to distinguish one from the other. - Reinhold Niebuhr

Pray for a tough hide & a tender heart. - Ruth Bell Graham

Have a great day & remember: We can't see the big picture, but God can.

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

Our greatest problems in life come not so much from the situations we confront as from our doubts about our ability to handle them.

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

Dwell on the positive ...... you gain peace.
Cling to the negative, all you'll have is a headache.

That the birds fly overhead, this you cannot stop. That they build a nest in your hair, this you can prevent. -Chinese proverb

Be bold. If you're going to make an error, make it a doozy, and don't be afraid to hit the ball. -Billie Jean King

Sometimes the road less traveled, is less traveled for a reason. -Jerry Seinfeld

Have a great day & remember don't sweat the small stuff!

I DID IT!!! Thank you everyone for your nice thoughts!

And in case there are any doubters..I have applied to over 40 schools in the past 2 years and have finally been accepted to 1 and it's so happened to be my Number 1 Choice right down the street from where I live!! Whoever does not believe God has a reason for what he does has not heard my story!!! My GPA was a 3.1 and PCAT was 87 but Pharmacy can be so much more. I don't know anyone that wanted it more than me and once people see that, you are harder to deny! Keep the faith and Good luck everyone!!!

The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace. Psalm 29:11

He who leaves God out of his reasoning does not know how to count. - Italian Proverb

When your world caves in -- When the lights go out - - When bad news comes -- When you have done everything you can. You have come exactly to the place where GOD wants you to be. Be still and know that I am GOD...Psalm 46:10. When you say a situation or a person is hopeless, you are slamming the door in the face of GOD. The LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome GOD. Deuteronomy 7:21

In life, as in football, you won't go far unless you know where the goalposts are.

No matter how tall your grandfather was, you've got to do your own
growing.

Life is an echo. What you send out -- you get back. What you give -- you get.

I can tell you honestly, in my life, I have failed more than I have succeeded. I have been denied from my top choice schools, jobs, ect... For every success, it seems 5 failures accompany it. But in the end, no one knows remembers your failures, but they notice your success. These successes build on top of one another, to make you stronger. If you don't try, you don't fail, you don't succeed. So I always think to myself, "Will I get accepted into this job/school?" I don't know, but I know that I won't get it if I don't apply!

In my pharmacy application process, I thought I would be lucky if I got into U of Pacific (a third-tier school). People have told me I would be wasting my time if I applied to schools like UCSD, UCSF and I believed them. A week before the applications were due, I changed my mind and decided that I would waste my money and maybe get really lucky. I was extremely surprised later to find all my top choice schools wanted to interview me. When U of Pacific asked for the interview, I was the one who turned them down... something I thought would never happen!

I'm not going to flatter myself by thinking that I am intelligent. Sometimes I feel like I have to work twice as hard as my classmates to do as well. There are many people who are much smarter than me. Yet they don't see very far ahead-- perhaps they're afraid of failing. Though they are smarter, I have carried myself farther. I may not be blessed with great genes, but my determination is something no one can take away.

You will meet people on this forum, and in life, who seem that everything they touch turns into gold. Just remember: you see their success, not their failures, so don't give up!

Hang in there MoXieguRl. I only applied to two schools for specific reasons (haven't heard from one at all....it was a long shot anyway and interviewed at the other almost 2 months ago and haven't heard anything). This has been a very disappointing process for me and I am trying to convince myself that it is worth it to try again next year should I not get accepted anywhere (I am older and have to consider many things such as continuing to push off having kids until I am finished with school). I am trying to convince myself that it all works out for the best in the end but it gets tough sometimes. I truly hope that it works out for you and that we will be seeing you post your "Class of 2010" email soon!

This is a very uplifting thread. Be blessed it's hard to go thru pre-pharm, sometimes very discouraging but God is faithful. He'll give you every desire of your heart if you call them out to him SPECIFICALLY

Wow, I guess pharmacy really is becoming a female-dominated career. This thread is so wishy-washy. 🙂

Time to testosterone it up a bit:

Words of encouragement from my high school football coach:

AIN'T NOTHING BUT A LITTLE CRAMP YOU WHINING SISSY CREAMPUFF! NOW GET YOUR ASS OUT THERE AND HIT SOMEBODY OR YOU'LL BE RUNNING LAPS UNTIL YOU GRADUATE!!!!

Faith is knowing that if the mountain won't move - He'll show us a way around it.

The Lord is good....He cares for those who trust in Him. Nahum 1:7

We all have storms in our lives. Sometimes it's a brief shower; other times it's an all out thunderstorm. God never promised us a life free from storms, but He has promised to be with us and bring us safely through the storms if we believe in Him and rely on Him.

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal. Isaiah 26:3-4

I was regretting the past & fearing the future. Suddenly the Lord was speaking....."My name is I AM." He paused. I waited. He continued, "When you live in the past with its mistakes & regrets, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I WAS. When you live in the future, with its problems & fears, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not I WILL BE. When you live in this moment, it is not hard. I am here. My name is I AM.
A large majority of events in the past may be roughly divided into those which never happened & those which do not matter. - William Ralph Inge

Someone once asked prizefighter James J. Corbett what was the most important thing a man must do to become a champion. He replied, "Fight one more round."

I know that I already posted that I got into UCSF and waitlisted at UCSD so I'm sorry if you already read this and I annoy you. So, anyhow, I got into UCSF and waitlisted at UCSD (which I'm turning down)! UCSF is a perfect fit for me and I never thought I had a chance.

I may be the luckiest person in the world right now, but in the past, I've had many close shots and I failed. I know many of you may be in that spot, and it does hurt. If you end up not getting it, I hope that you realize that you tried and lost nothing-- congratulate yourself for that! My biggest mistakes in life were never about failing but about not trying because I felt so little of myself and thought I couldn't do it.

In 3 words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It Goes On. - Robert Frost

How about changing the old saying "If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try agin" --- let's change it to "If at first you don't succeed, figure out what you did wrong, then try, try, try again." Because if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.

Having faith does not mean asking God to give you what you want, then sitting back & waiting for Him to send it. God doesn't do the work for you; He does the work through you. It's not enough to look up; you must also look within. Which is why you have to PRAY as if everything depends on GOD, but work as if everything depends on you. PRAY FOR A GOOD HARVEST - BUT KEEP ON PLOWING!!

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. Ecclesiastes 11:6

IF YOU WANT TO TEST YOUR MEMORY, TRY TO RECALL WHAT YOU WERE WORRYING ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO TODAY.

A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is just putting on its shoes.

I was gratified to be able to answer promptly. I said I don't know.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice it would be this:

Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life & when it comes, hold your head high, look it squarely in the eye and say, “I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.”

…………. Ann Landers

“Pain is inevitable, but misery is optional.” Tim Hansel

Sometimes we have to dig deep to find that source of strength when life becomes overwhelming…..hardship & pain are just a part of life, but we can make the decision everyday to find something to be thankful for. WE make the decision to either be miserable or ………….to make lemonade out of lemons.

It has been quoted & re-quoted: Our real success in life will largely be determined by how we deal with adversity: whether we run from it or face up to it, whether we shrink from it or grow from it, whether we surrender to it or triumph over it.

Life is hard & it’s not always fair, but that doesn’t mean it still can’t be good!

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified……..for the Lord your God goes with you; HE will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2Timothy 1:7

Food for Thought……

Setbacks pave the way for comebacks.

Man’s disappointments are sometimes God’s appointments.

And … Never give up:
By perseverance even the snail reached the ark. 🙂

I am a slow walker, but I never walk backwards…Abraham Lincoln

Your word is a lamp to my feet

and a light to my path.....

Psalm 119:105

God isn’t going to let us see what the future holds. He promises us a “lamp unto our feet”, not a crystal ball into the future. We do not need to know everything that will happen tomorrow. We only need to know HE leads us and we will find His grace to help us when we need it.

Bits & pieces……..

Never deprive someone of hope; it may be all they have.

Never underestimate the power of love.

Never underestimate the power of forgiveness.

Never give up…..miracles happen everyday !!

Instead of using the words--if only--try using the words--next time.

Instead of using the word problem, try using the word opportunity.

TIP for the day….Be careful when burning bridges.

You may be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.

HAVE A GREAT DAY !!!

I did about that well on the PCAT, and I was scared too, but you can only do your best on it! There is no reasonably good way to "study" for it because they could really ask you anything from any of the subjects! You just have to go in there and relax. Don't work yourself up when you get there or things just get worse. When you leave, just leave knowing that you did your best based on the material you have learned! Good luck!

Psalm 31:24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.

GOD can work in our lives even in the midst of the most difficult circumstances.

Trust in HIS goodness & power.

HOPE...is an extraordinary grace that God gives us to control our fears.

You block your dreams when you allow your fears

to grow bigger than your faith.

So don’t measure the size of the mountain --

Talk to the one who can move it;

Instead of carrying the world on your shoulders --

Talk to the one who carries the universe on HIS.

If you don’t climb the mountain,

You can’t get the view.

Trust God & live one day at a time.

Have a great weekend. 😀

There are 2 rules on the spiritual path: Begin & Continue.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6- 7

MAKE PRAYER A HABIT.....Prayer is not about waiting for a right feeling; it is a habit, a choice, something you do regardless of how you feel. Make prayer a part of your day, not just a set time. Remember you can pray any time, any place.
Decide never to make a major decision without praying about it first (pharmacy school) 😉 Get God's opinion--alot of problems can be avoided if He is given the opportunity to direct your path. Keep it real, keep it simple, and KEEP ON PRAYING. God has promised to bless our persistency. Prayer must be grounded in faith; faith is expectation. Expect God will answer your prayer. He will answer your prayer in 1 of 4 ways...."Yes", "No", "Wait", or "I've got something else, something better."

I pray hard, work hard, and leave the rest to God. - Florence Griffith Joyner

Flatter me, & I may not believe you.
Criticize me, & I may not like you.
Ignore me, & I may not forgive you.

Encourage me, & I may not forget you. 😀

We are here on earth to do good for others. What the others are here for I don't know. - W.H. Auden

Great is the LORD,

And most worthy of praise.

--- Psalm 48:1

(On the lighter side..)

Be careful what you ask for….

I asked God for strength & He gave me difficulties to make me strong…

Maybe next time I’ll just be content being weak. 😛

When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this---you haven’t. -------Thomas Edison

FAITH: Does not wait until it understands;

In that case it would not be faith.

Every word of God is pure;He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
-- Proverbs 30:5

God has not changed. The same God who watched over Noah & all those in the ark, bringing them safely through the flood, will do the same for us.

Tip for the Day:

Be careful of your thoughts;

They may become words at any moment.

(Often without warning !!)

Lord, make my words soft & tender,

For tomorrow I may have to eat them.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing. Proverbs 16:24

Mean what you say;

Say what you mean;

Just don’t say it mean…… :meanie:

-- Psalm 31:14-15 But I trust in you, O Lord; I say "You are my God." My times are in your hands.....

Trust your hopes...not your fears. Live daringly, live boldly.... There are really no mistakes in life, only lessons.

Psalm 147:5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limits.

We all know that trusting God requires us to accept that some questions will go unanswered, but we choose to believe that even though we do not know all the answers HE does. HE has perfect timing for all things in our lives. Trusting God often also means not knowing how God is going to accomplish what needs to be done or when He will do it. We find ourselves saying -- "God is never late". BUT He is never early either! He uses times of waiting to stretch our faith.......We learn to trust God by going thru experiences that require trust. By seeing God's faithfulness over & over, we learn to let go of trusting ourselves, and gradually we learn to trust God more & more! If He did everything we asked for immediately, we would never grow. Timing & trust are twins....they work side by side.
Remember to enjoy where you are while you are waiting to get to where you want to be. Besides once we get what we are waiting for, we will begin waiting for something else. Waiting is a major part of life. "Fast & fragile; slow & solid" If we are willing to wait on God's perfect timing, it will be put together right & will last.

I agree, nice thread though.

Methinks many of you would be shoe-ins at PBA. 😉

Here are some great Vince Lombardi quotes I feel help me.
And yes I am a Green Bay Packer fan.

On Fortitude:
We want to perfect ourselves so that we can win with less struggle and increasing ease, but the strange thing is that it's not the easy wins we ostensibly seek but rather the difficult struggles to which we really look forward.

Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

The real test in golf as in life is not keeping out of the rough, but getting out after we are in.

I thought this one was a nice relation to pharmacy-
On Success:
In handling that pigskin or in handling a product, both of us are looking for the same thing-the pleasing of our customers and winning and keeping their loyalty.

"Don't get set into one form, adapt it and build your own, and let it grow, be like water. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend. Adapt!" ---Bruce Lee

Leaving The City of Regret

I had not really planned on taking a trip this time of year, and yet I found myself packing rather hurriedly. This trip was going to be unpleasant and I knew in advance that no real good would come of it. I'm talking about my annual "Guilt Trip."

I got tickets to fly there on Wish I Had airlines. It was an extremely short flight. I got my baggage, which I could not check. I chose to carry it myself all the way. It was weighted down with a thousand memories of what might have been. No one greeted me as I entered the terminal to the Regret City International Airport. I say international because people from all over the world come to this dismal town.

As I checked into the Last Resort Hotel, I noticed that they would be hosting the year's most important event, the Annual Pity Party. I wasn't going to miss that great social occasion. Many of the towns leading citizens would be there.

First, there would be the Done family, you know, Should Have, Would Have and Could Have. Then came the I Had family. You probably know ol' Wish and his clan. Of course, the Opportunities would be present, Missed and Lost. The biggest family would be the Yesterdays. There are far too many of them to count, but each one would have a very sad story to share.

Then Shattered Dreams would surely make and appearance. And It's Their Fault would regale us with stories (excuses) about how things had failed in his life, and each story would be loudly applauded by Don't Blame Me and I Couldn't Help It.

Well, to make a long story short, I went to this depressing party knowing that there would be no real benefit in doing so. And, as usual, I became very depressed. But as I thought about all of the stories of failures brought back from the past, it occurred to me that all of this trip and subsequent "pity party" could be cancelled by ME! I started to truly realize that I did not have to be there. I didn't have to be depressed. One thing kept going through my mind, I CAN'T CHANGE YESTERDAY, BUT I DO HAVE THE POWER TO MAKE TODAY A WONDERFUL DAY. I can be happy, joyous, fulfilled, encouraged, as well as encouraging. Knowing this, I left the City of Regret immediately and left no forwarding address. Am I sorry for mistakes I've made in the past? YES! But there is no physical way to undo them.
So, if you're planning a trip back to the City of Regret, please cancel all your reservations now. Instead, take a trip to a place called, Starting Again. I liked it so much that I have now taken up permanent residence there. My neighbors, the I Forgive Myselfs and the New Starts are so very helpful. By the way, you don't have to carry around heavy baggage, because the load is lifted from your shoulders upon arrival. God bless you in finding this great town. If you can find it -- it's in your own heart -- please look me up. I live on I Can Do It street.
