Since it is near the end of the interview period, I was wondering what programs have contacted people (phone calls, e-mails, special thank you letters etc.). Who is generally contacting people and from what programs. Any specific program insight would be helpful.

from what i have heard, it is uncommon to get anything of this sort. i have, however, received a letter from one (unfortunately, not one of my favs) - SUNY Buffalo.

Got a phone call from North Shore and a letter from Brown

Here's a thread on this from a little earlier in the interview season:

Got a phone call from North Shore.... Mass e-mails from Stanford and Brigham

There's definitely more than 3 people that have been contacted... Let's hear it people?

Phone call from UIC...letter from UNC.

I got a personalized thank you card from Drexel and a letter from UMKC

For what its worth I got a letter from UNC, Chicago, and MCV with little notes at the bottom.

I got an email from the director of one of my programs 2 days after the interview. I had already decided this would be my top choice but the interest clinched it. 😍

With as little offense as possible to the above posters, this strikes me as a rather gunnerish / over-annalysing thread. NRMP loosely recommends against such practices, and I have been told MANY times to put little, if any stock into this sort of thing. That all being said, I've only heard from one program at which I intervewed, so who cares what I say?

Really, best of luck to all y'all, but I implore you not to let such responses / the lack therof to influence your rank lists. Wait, what am I saying? I care about almost none of the above-mentioned programs, so please rank them highly!

NRMP doesn't forbid programs from contacting applicants. It only forbids telling an applicant where you will rank them, assuring them they are a guaranteed match, etc.

Nearly all programs where I interviewed contacted me in some form or another to see if I had additional questions and to thank me for considering them/interviewing there.

Wilco, it might be that the programs where you interviewed do not send letters, emails, or make phone calls. Or it might be too early for you to receive anything.

I recieved a dozen long stem roses and a bottle of 30 year old cognac from one program, but I dont think I'll even rank them...

Seriously, I did not interview at any of the programs the above folks have mentioned except for UT Houston (I too got that little email that gave me warm fuzzies for a few seconds before I realized it was basically spam). All the programs I've interviewed at have been very poker faced. Hmm.

I got lingerie and a subscription to Victoria Secret.

And I'm a DUDE!

Somebody sent me a case of bud light but a bunch or referees showed up at my door and stole it. Weird...

I recently received emails from UCSF-Fresno and UT-Houston. They basically just said thanks for interviewing with us, we think you are a good applicant.

phone calls from cook and yale also

Email from UCONN and Baystate, letters from MCV and ECU. This won't change anything because who knows if they are mass emails or actual hints at rank order.

I got NO post-interview love! If you got it, and it wasn't a mass-mailing, it has to be a good sign, right? If you didn't, that's O.K. too. Pretty soon now this boot-licking process will be over.

Obviously you talk with a program during a phone call, but what about when they send personal e-mails or letters? Are you guys replying to these? I don't want to be rude by ignoring them, but I don't have a whole lot to say that wasn't already in my thank-you notes. For some reason I feel more compelled to reply to a personal e-mail than a letter, too. Just trying to get a feel for the etiquette here.
