I was reading some old postings and I saw

that Endodontists can make up to 500K right

out of his/her residency. I also read that

alot can make over 7 figures after

practicing for only 5 years. How can they

make so much money and did they also make

this much? Finally will these income levels

be this high for years to come? 😕

From what I understand, through talking with my uncle who is a general dentist, the high earning potential for endodontists is partially because they have virtually no overhead expenses. All they need is 1 chair, a small office/reception area and a few dental tools. This is also on top of reletivly short procedures that don't go over 2 or 3 visits and that bill quite a lot. Compare this to an orthodontist who has tons of chairs, assistants and has to have a huge patient base just to make a good income (although good income can still be 500,000+ fairly easily). However, there is always a range of salaries through all the specialties, we usually only hear of the really outragous ones becuase they are inherintly the most interesting to talk about. For example my uncle bills 1.2 Million per year (Canadian $) taking home around 420,000 as a general dentist and he knows general dentists in California who make 7 figures per year. So you really shouldn't judge a career or specialty just by the stories about the few people making exceptionaly high incomes. Do what you like best!
Hope this helps.

I work as hygienist for a GD who does some endo. It is BORING!!!!! to most. There is little overhead but it can be a big headache also. I have a friend who is an endodontist and there are those who never reach that income. It depends on where you are at for one, how many other endodontists there are in that area for GD to refer to, and how well people like you. They can make a very comfortable living though. Follow your heart and your dreams and all else will follow! good luck. kat
