For the upcoming endo cycle, when does the application typically open and when do schools do most of the interviews? Just trying to play for the summer. Thanks.

I'm not sure the origins of "you need to be an outstanding student to get directly to an endo programs!". This is a bogus and false theory. Endo is an experience based residency, since there is almost no hands on clinical endo cases in the pre-doc program.
I have friends who got into endo residency directly from dental school, and they had terrible first year (clinically) in the endo program compared to their more experienced residents who worked for few years before they got in.
It's a risk (in my opinion) for the endo faculty to take grads from the pre-doc program, if not a nightmare, and giving them molar endo cases in the clinic off the bat. Could you imagine? Who would the patients prefer?
