Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these new technologies (gastric balloon, endoscopic sleeve etc) the prospect of them seem very exciting, but like other procedures before it may just be a fad

Balloons have been around being mediocre (at best) for a long time overseas. They still suck.
The endoscopic suturing isn't durable enough yet to be a first line intervention but may have a place for pouch revisions.
The thing is that the surgical techniques are good so the standard to compete is high.

Balloon is totally a boutique out of pocket procedure, dubious outcomes, near 100% post-procedure nausea/vomiting. Apparently now pancreatitis now too. We'll see how things go as more centers and groups start putting them in.
