Hello,

I am applying the summer after this one. I am also an engineer. At this point in my education I have completed a couple projects which would make me employable as an engineer (if that gives you a guideline for the scale of the projects).

What I am wondering is whether this is an EC worth continuing throughout my education. Would it be best if I started doing projects that related to healthcare?

My first thought is that this is a great EC because I have actually solved problems. However, main concern is whether an adcom would understand the kind of work I have done. I doubt they could judge how much work I did on the project just from my github. I would think this would be a "hobby"?

Thanks

One project is related to health sciences. The other is a medium sized application which is mainly proof that I can write good code and follow appropriate standards.

I am thinking of finishing 2 more projects before application in 2017

How much time are you spending on these projects during the semester? Any way you could get recognition (with competitions/prizes/applications etc) to more so show the quality of your projects? Interdisciplinary is becoming a buzzword in med school admissions and having CS/Engineering skills definitely can help you leverage this. But obviously if it starts taking up too much of your time it might not be the best idea. (I'm an engineering pre-med too)
