Just curious if anyone could give me insight into the english requirements. most schools say they require a year of english. I have a semester of english composition, and a semester of a class entitled "literature of the 20th century". Do these classes fulfill the english pre-reqs?

It depends on the school. As I was looking through the pre-reqs at the different school's websites, I found that some accepted literature based English classes. Check your potential schools websites.
The requirement is to have a certain large chunk of your grade be determined by essay writing (as opposed to tests). Literature should be fine as long as there's a big essay involved.
It never hurts to ask schools about this. Post what you find out here because I'm sure it will be helpful to others.

On Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's website it states that you need 2 semesters of English, but one of the semesters has to be a literature, not composition course. Does anyone have personal knowledge if this is strictly enforced, or are 2 semesters of English Comp acceptable in substituion?
I contacted my med schools about this. I had one semester of speech but tested out of both english 101 and 201 through CLEP exams. Then all of a sudden my advisor tells me that most medical schools want to see that you have completed a college level english course. So I enrolled in english 101... as a senior 🙁 The crowd in there was sure alot different than in genetics i'll tell you that. I called my schools and explained my situation, i am covered at all of them either through my CLEP tests or my speech/eng101 combo.
