So Ive entered a program where I can shadow a physician in the ER room but I also volunteer in the same area cleaning stretchers, helping patients with pillows and keeping them comfortable and what not in the ER room. Ive signed up for 3 actual shadowings with a particular ER doctor and the shifts are 12 hrs each. This combined with my 40 hrs of volunteer service will be combined into one letter written by the doc. Do you think this will suffice? I will continue doing this after however, I would like a letter by 4-6 weeks (In time for when I receive my secondaries) so this may be as much as I can do.

40 hours is fine. You're good.

oh ok I understand. but you make it seem like 40 isn't necessarily the expected amount haha

I personally would recommend 50+ hours of shadowing. I haven't shadowed a DO yet but I'm applying in two years. From people I know personally who have gotten into DO's, all of the shadowed about 50-70.

ok. maybe ill try to fit in 4 sessions. that would end up being 48 hours of actual shadowing and a ton of other hours doing volunteer services in the ER room. thanks buddy
