entering a phone number with an extension on AMCAS?

This is really specific, but I am trying to enter a phone number for a contact for one of my activities in AMCAS and it will not let me enter the number with an extension, eg 111-222-3456 x 123. Anyone have any idea how to get around this? This is not in the instruction manual.

Is it really that important? Why not just put the email address? They only ask for one or the other and I highly doubt they would call anyway.

Adcoms have 1000's of applicants who list 10+ activities and descriptions. That said don't lie because if they catch you you're screwed.
