Hi everyone. A question to those of you from quarter schools filling out the courses section of the NYU. How are you doing it? I can't fit 2.7 onto the space given?

Thanks...

Oops, guess there was already a post on this. I asked the same question in the secondary thread. I have no idea. Adcoms should really take us quarter people into consideration or at least put instructions on their site.

Yeah it really annoys me when they don't consider us. And it isn't like the quarter system is a small amount of schools...Stanford uses it!

so what's the consensus on dealing with this problem on NYU...I'm too lazy to search

Man, NYU must not have put too much thought into getting this secondary thing right.

I may try e-mailing them unless someone else has heard anything.

Miami also ignored the lowly quarter-system schools when thoughtfully constructing their online secondary. I called them today and a cool guy told me to just list your BEST two courses from each field (phys, chem, ochem, etc) and ignore the labs if they were taken in separate classes.

so if you took on the quarter system:

Ochem intro A-
Ochem 1 A
Ochem 2 A
Ochem lab A

list only Ochem 1 & Ochem 2, and ignore the lab. NYU may also give similar directions.

edit 1: don't know how to handle the unit predicament, but most likely, they'll tell us to round off from 2.7 to 3.0

Well I e-mailed them, but I'll see. So if you just put your best courses they won't think that you're missing credits?

Yeah, I just listed two courses that fulfilled the requirement. If there is a problem, they can always look at AMCAS.

Why they don't just look at the AMCAS in the first place is beyond me.

Got an e-mail back:

You should enter semester hours. We are working on correcting the
problem. Wait a couple of hours and try again. There are only two lines
so you can write two classes on one line. Just put a slash in between the
classes and the grades.

That is stupid. NYU called them "credit hours," which on AMCAS refers to quarter system units. I e-mailed them to see how I need to fix this.

Have you found out how to fit 2.7 in the space given? I have the same problem.

Now you can enter decimals (like 2.7 or 5.4) into the credit box, so what I did was as follows:

Course: OchemA/OchemB, Credits: 5.4, Grade: A+/A+ (hypothetical 🙂 )

And so on.

There seems to be enough room to squeeze 2 classes per line for all the subject areas, so if you're creative enough it's not a problem to fill out the app anymore. It sucks that they didn't bother to return my e-mail asking about this issue, but luckily someone on the other thread heard back from them that they would fix the website (which they finally did!).

Good luck.
