are episomes just another name for plasmids or is there a difference?

Nah episome is just a type of plasmid. Theres 2 types of plasmids: episomes(integrating plasmids) and non-integrating plasmids.

Non-integrating plasmids are the common ones I think..they don't touch the bacteria's chromosome

And episomes are the ones that mix into the bacteria's chromosome

I think yakuza is correct from what I understand a plasmid that has been intigrated into the bacterias chromosome then becomes an episomes...

I guess from a logic arguement, all episomes must be plasmids but not all plasmids are episomes

Right but just to point out episomes don't have to mix into the chromosome but have the Capability to do so.

wait....so a plasmid that has the capability to intergrate is an episome???

so even if it exists as a plasmid outside the chromosome it would still be considered???
