If 60mL of a 0.100 N monovalent strong base is neutralized by 30mL of a strong acid solution, and the concentrations of each species is 0.100 M, then the strong acid must be:


A. 0.100 N and monoprotic
B.0.200 N and diprotic
C.0.100 N and diprotic
D. 0.200 N and monoprotic

Highlight the sentence: Why is NOT __C_ , but actually _B_ ?

Oh, the minute I wrote it out I remembered that by definition Normality = (i) M (see MedPr's thread on this normality).

So from M1V1 = M2V2 , I can see that the acid has to be diprotic and thus normality = 0.2N

C doesn't even make sense by definition. The acid cannot be diprotic and yet have a 0.1 N value with it's molarity = 0.1M.

if i'm wrong, correct me. otherwise, nevermind!
