Can anybody comment on the typical week or month of an ER doctor? What days do you work, when do shifts start/end, what days do you have off? How do you recover from a night shift?

Thank you

32-40 hr/wk. 8-13hr shifts depending on the location/group. time of day varies between groups. generally, there are days, nights, and swing shifts. Whether or not you get certain days off depends on your scheduling ability and is hgihly group dependent. I will tell you that there isn't much difference between weekdays weekends and holidays unless you somehow set up your schedule that way. how to recover after a night shift? sleep.

go post in the Emergency Medicine forum. you'll get more insight.

I see that you are a resident and if you're in EM, I would NOT want to work at the hospital you are training at. At the hospital I work at most of the docs work 12-15 9-hour shifts a month. Sounds way better than the situation you were depicting.

Edit: I see you meant shifts varying from 8-13 hours. My bad.
