Is there such a thing as ER Pharm, i've read the Phizer pharmacy career book but i don't remember if ER was ever there. Has anyone ever heard of it...I'm curious to know.

Yes there is such a thing as being able to work as a pharmacist in the ER. I can't tell you much about it aside from being told that you are right there helping the physcians decide the best coarse of action involving meds (was told by a friend who is an ER doc). I can tell you more after the summer when I get to check it out.

emogrrrl: will you be shadowing a pharm this summer? if so where?

I know a pharmacist who is the "trauma" pharmacist at county hospital. Havent had time to pick her brain about the job but she likes it.

Nope, not shadowing, I'm interning at a children's hospital this summer in Tx.

I believe they're called "Critical Care" Pharmacists in that Pfizer's Guide.

Hi emogrrrl, which hospital will you be interning at? Me, Scott and White.

I'll be at Dallas Childrens. Where do you go to school?....I'm guessing UT 😛

Wow, that sounds like a great job. I wonder if most hospitals have one.

ER and the Critical Care are not the same area. Critical Care involves patients who are mostly in Intensive Care Units.. Critical Care drugs encompass Cardiac drugs.. dopamine, dobutamine, diltiazem Inj.. and sedation meds for intubation for vents..like Versed, Ativan, and Propofol drips.. Also, TPN, massive antibiotics..

ER patients can certainly start on those drugs in ER... but patients coming into ER could get a band aid and go home..or get a prescription for an antibiotic and sent home....or go straight into surgery... or get admitted to Labor and Delivery...

Critical Care and ER are different areas.
