So for this year's match, we cannot submit an app until Sept 15 and the dean's letters
will be going out on Oct. 1 vs. Nov 1? What effect did this
have on last year's match?

I may have to go through the match again unfortunately to switch
if I can't find an open spot outside the match, so curious if anyone
can chime in.

Do most programs still wait until dean's letters are released
to give interviews? I remember when I applied most of my IVs
were given post dean's letters, but then again I did not apply until
Oct/Nov so not sure my experience is similar to those who actually
applied earlier.

This is probably program dependent, but I received invites starting September 17 or 18th (well before the dean's letter was released).

What field if I can ask, and roughly how many? Just curious. I applied way late when I did match initially, so obviously all of my IVs were post MSPE that's why I'm curious. Thanks!

I applied to Peds, which notoriously interview early. My first invite was around Sept 23-24, like 1-2 invites/day in the beginning. Official interviews were in early Oct.

Anesthesia. By the end of September I had received about 5 invites. I think I had received almost, if not all of my invites by the end of October (a total of about 25).

So the other 20 came after the dean's letter I am assuming?

Dude...I'm confused. What happened to your spot for next year? Or are you bailing out?

Hi gutonc,

Spot is for this July, and I'm going into it/starting it, I have no choice but as I have mentioned I am trying to switch specialties. I can't bail out before I complete my match committment and logistically, without having another spot in hand. I was offered an amazing spot at an amazing program but I cannot take it due to spouse's job issues and they won't wait for me until I complete my match requirement. It kind of sucks, so if I can't find something before Sept. when the match opens again, I"m going to have to go through it again, which I am not looking forward to!

I guess the match has changed a bit since I last applied/matched reason why I inquired.
