opinions needed:

Is it wise to send off my initial ERAS application before Sept 2nd without all my letters of Rec available (none in fact), or should I wait until it is completed (mid-late Sept)?

Will programs actually check regularly to see if my app has been updated? Should I phone them and tell them my ERAS app has been updated?

Rumor has it that as your app is updated, ERAS automaticly spits out the latest updates to prior downloaded applications everytime the program accesses the database. Any truth to this?

Thanks for the help!

Submit your application as soon as possible! Programs download and print new documents on a daily basis and will add to your file until it is complete. Many programs will make interview offers based on your grades, board scores, and other information in your file. I received about 8 invitations before my personal statement was in my file (I hadn't written it yet).

Don't call programs this early in the process. You can check the NRMP site daily to see what documents have been downloaded.

Good luck!

ERAS will automatically send updated material to your programs as long as it is processed before any deadlines.

Programs may or may not download the information you've sent as an update. They may not if:

a) they figure your application sucks eggs anyway and this extra information cannot sway them from this belief

or

b) you have sent the information past their program deadline (which may be earlier than ERAS).

Programs are under no obligation to download all of your information...I can tell you with certainty that some programs only downloaded by USMLE scores (and nothing else when they were suitably underwhemled with the scores) or status as an IMG (thanks, but no thanks was the message). Most downloaded everything sent to them (as I assume its easier) but don't assume they are required to download any or everything.

You can check and see if the information has been uploaded to the ERAS server and whether or not the programs have downloaded the new LORs. If a few weeks goes by and a program hasn't, I see nothing wrong with contacting them and asking if they have seen the addition.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you cant check ERAS to see which documents are in until after your application has been submitted on Sept 2. When I go to the ADTS section, that is what it tells me.

You can't submit your application UNTIL September 2nd, not before.

Definitely submit what you have and add the LORs as they become available.
