ERAS and USMLE

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Let's see...if I understand your situation you took Step 1 and passed but didn't like the score, and have already taken Step 2 which you think you did better on (and probably did, since I think usually people are right about how they did if they have an educated guess). I think I would be inclined to do what you are doing (withhold the scores for now). I can tell you I'm almost 100% positive that not giving out your scores for a few more weeks wouldn't hurt you for internal medicine. I feel like IM programs don't even give out most of their interview invites until December, at least that's how it was 4 years ago or so. I don't know how your decision will affect you if you are doing one of the "early match" specialties. You need to check w/the programs to see what their deadlines are, since you don't want to miss those.

Have you talked w/the career advising office at your medical school?

I'm in a similar boat to you, random.

I'm applying in anesthesiology, and plan to submit on Sept 2nd. I chose to release my Step I scores to programs but will hold the Step 2 scores until I see them, and will release them after I get my eyes on 'em. My thought is that my Step I is not THAT far off of what I perceive some programs will offer me an interview with - so I can take advantage of being the "early bird", and I hope my Step 2 is quite a bit better, so that I can hit the programs that haven't offered me interviews with a "Hey - look what I did" email to update, and hopefully get an interview then. This of course, falls apart, if I do the same or worse on Step 2, but what the hell - they're gonna see my scores someday anyways.

If your Step 1 is in the interview cutoff range for the specialty you're choosing, why not send those scores out, and see what kinda interviews you get?

Either way, good luck!

how are you holding and releasing scores? In MyERAS I only see the option of listing the exams I've taken, not whether or not I want the scores released. Is this done w/ USMLE or NRMP or something? Thanks.

would also like to clarify/confirm my understanding of releasing or holding scores. There are two questions...As I understand it, the first one's for releasing whatever scores have been reported to that date, the second is regarding automatic release of any future scores to be reported...is that right?

So I took both at the middle/end of July...I have my CK scores back since early August, and not my CS...If I say yes to the first q and no to the second, programs will receive my step 1 and ck scores now...then I have to retransmit once I get my cs...right?

Not sure I understand the big deal people make about these two questions, so wanted to make sure I'm at least getting how it works and what they're asking...
