as of december:

#of US and canadian applicants for categorical surgery positions in the 2005 match: 1899. number of img applicants to categorical surgery positions: 1709. that's a total of 3608 applications for around 1080 positions.

the numbers are slightly higher than last year. possibly because there are some reapplicants whom did not match last year. interpret the data as you will.

my advice is to rank every program that you interviewed with unless you would rather go unmatched than match at a certain program. there might be a few slots left open in the scramble but those spots are going to be battled for by several hundred applicants.

other increasingly popular fields: er, anesthesia, peds, otho, ob/gyn (slightly). prs integrated has 261 applicants for about 100 spots.

decreased interest in: fam. med, and surprisingly radiology (over 200 fewer applications this year)

good luck all

While its good to hear were going to be paid well … looks like things are going to get tougher getting into the business .

anybody have results for the AOA match for this year or last year? I have no idea how many people go for AOA surgery or how competitive it is comparitively with allopath

Celiac - Where did you find this information? Is there a website which lists this data?
