I have created my PS in a Microsoft Word 2010, then put them into Notepad (.txt) and when its saved in ERAs, it takes out some of the indentions and one or two paragraph breaks. Any thoughts??? (Yes, I did a search but found nothing helpful). If I can't fix, is this a big thing to PDs?

I had the same problem. I am just skipping indentions. If you want, you can put like 5 spaces at the front of the paragraph. I think I read somewhere that you shouldn't try using the tab function. I am also putting a blank line between my paragraphs. I really don't think PDs care that much about the formatting as long as it is easy to read.

Ignore indents. Hope that your line breaks carry over and then remember that ~5% of the people who have your PS to look at will actually read past the second sentence.

uh..so no one really reads the personal statement? lol...

uh...no. If you're lucky, one person at each place you interview will have read your PS. And only if it's <1 page, preferably 2/3 or 3/4 of a page. In reality, one person at every 2nd or 3rd program will have read your PS in its entirety. So don't slack on it, but don't pretend it's "War and Peace" either.

I'm not certain I see what the problem is. Fix the PS the way you want it to look in Notepad and then upload it to ERAS. Add extra lines between the paragraphs if you want them. Indent by using spaces (as mentioned above). Once it looks the way you want it to in Notepad, you upload to ERAS.

@aPD- In some post, you had written the font size and other settings related to PS.

Could you tell that again please ?

I think it's Courier 10. Or something close to that.

It's really only relevant so that you get the length of the PS to a decent size (under 1 page).

Margins: top and bottom = 0.8, left and right = 0.3

I find that with courier new 10 and the margins that aPD suggests my PS fits onto 1 page even though it's over 800 words long. Does this sound right? I saw one program suggest that the PS length should be around 500 words.

What I did: go to the "personal statement" tab, then point to "print ps", go to print the PS, then click "PDF". Save the PDF to your desktop. If it's 1 page...you're good.

click "PDF"? Do you mean through the menu on the internet browser?

Yeah, sorry that wasn't clear. On your web browser's "file" tab, click "Print...". Then the option comes up for "PDF". Save as a PDF.
