Under the "military information" section in the "Biographic information" part of the ERAS application, it asks "Do you have any other service obligations? (e.g. - Military Reserves, Public Health/State programs, etc.)"

Is this asking if I have any service obligations during residency or after residency? I do have a 4 year service obligation with public health after graduating from residency, but it in no way applies to me during my residency training. Do I answer yes or no to this? Do program directors care much about this, would it help my application chances or hurt me?

Thanks

Never came across this when reviewing residency applications, but the wording of the question is quite broad, thus I would assume that it’s referring to any service obligations, during residency or no. Is there a space to provide additional explanation? If so, I would just briefly describe what your commitment is and what that commitment entails.

Thanks for the response. The first question asks specifically if you have a military obligation. The next question is the one asking about any other service obligations.

There is a box to briefly describe your obligation. I think I will do what you recommended and put something brief explaining what it entails.
