When applying to PGY2-4 programs, do you apply during the internship year or the MS IV year?

I am a D.O. student and anticipate doing an internship year. Do I apply to residiencies this year or during my internship year?

How do I know what programs are linked with an internship?

Also for the LOR do we have to use the CORD format?

Thanks!!!

You can do both.

You should apply concurrently with applying for your intern year. However, if you end up not matching, many of the 2-4 programs actually 'save' a spot or two for applicants who had completed an intern year or previous training. For example, my class 'added' a medicine defector, a FMG, and a Navy dude who completed his GMO.

Secondly, if you end up not matching into a 2-4, you should apply to 1-3 programs the following year as well. One of my former classmates tried ortho, but didn't match, did a prelim year, then matched into a 1-3 EMed program the following year.
