So.. Dr. Romano wants to know how many constitutional and stereoisomers exist for 1,2-dimethylcyclopentane. Correct answer is 8. Am I dumb or did he not consider all of the constitutional isomers? I approached this by finding the IHD, then began drawing out the constitutional isomers.. found 8. But that doesn't include stereoisomers at all so.... Awks.

What question # is it? Is it from the destroyer book with OC/GC/Bio/Math?

Anywhos, if he didn't specifically write "consider all stereoisomers" I don't think you need to worry about it. For questions consider stereoisomers, he specifically says that.

It's number 48... specifies to consider all stereoisomers. I believe he did consider all the stereoisomers for the constitutional isomers he drew... though I don't believe he drew all possible constitutional isomers (which he also specified).

The answer is core ct. You can have 1,1 dim ethyl, 1,2 dimethyl and 1,3 dimethyl. Now, come stereoisomers. Cis or trans R or S. Please beware of meal compounds. Thus total of 8. Hope this helps.

What about... heptene... or ethylcyclopentane... are those not constitutional isomers as well...?
