I was surfing around the internet and reading some interesting news feeds. Now, I've always contemplated the hassle-free nomadic lifestyle. I envision myself becoming financially free by my mid to late 30s. I am frugal, I live like a student. I am going to chase the dollar when I finish with training. I don't care if I have to work q3-4, moonlight, etc. if it means I can make a high six-figure income. Uncle Sam will take his deductions, so more like mix six-figures.

I don't need an elaborate big house or an R8. I desire using that money to make more money for me. In addition, I want to use that money to explore and discover as much of this world as I can.

So, I came across this. It's called an ESCAPE Cabin. Check it out:

Apparently, I'm unable to copy/pasta the images.

Looks pretty sweet to me. Of course, not plausible for those with a big family. However, I'm single, and have no plans for kids. One of the specific things I look for in a lady is that she has a strong sense of adventure. Plan to also get a gun and scuba license in the future.

Hell, may not be a halfway decent option for the zombie apocalypse!!

Looks awesome. If I was single I'd own a couple dozen acres in the woods, live in a huge garage (filled with old beater trucks and a fleet of mini bikes and enduros) with a granny flat and professional kitchen on top, a big garden, some chickens, and a large indoor climbing wall. In real life I'm destined to live in a track home in suburbia. 😉

Yeah.... I thank my lucky stars nobody has come to track me down for child support, perhaps they're waiting until I finish training 🙁 lol
That does sound like the good life...
I want to keep my life as simple as possible, and be that guy who folks see maybe a few times a month, having just returned from a trip of a lifetime. I'm sure there's a smart and pretty lady out there who wouldn't mind a similar lifestyle and no kids. 🙂

Sounds awesome, I'm envious of you're freedom and desire to live a simple life. I can honestly say that my wife and kids are best part of my life. They're not cheap, but they're worth it.... most days. 😉 I've been trying to talk my wife into living in my garage/granny flat fantasy house. But she want's something more civilized with silly things like painted walls, crown molding and decorations. 😵

crown molding.... yeah, had to look that one up. 😵

there are times where I think to myself a kid won't be a terrible thing, but when it comes down to it - I just value my freedom a whole lot more. I'm not looking to get married anytime soon, but if one happens to enjoy a similar lifestyle, why not??

I wouldn't mind being the fun uncle that comes in and spoils the niece/nephew, though.

back to that ESCAPE cabin, it really does seem to have adequate space to just about have or do anything with it - nice bedroom, kitchen, living room and lounge space... and good thing I wouldn't have to paint anything... plus all that space outdoors, sounds like heaven on Earth... and no rock monsters needed 🙂

I have an Amish cabin in the north woods. 200 acres that I bought 10 years ago for $1500 an acre. The cabin is 14'x26' and is pretty basic. No power or water. I have an outhouse. I couldn't live in a space that small. I'd need a huge pole barn to store all my toys and things!

I'd be very happy with 200 acres in the woods. OP, this is my dream too. I'm angling for a city job with a cheap apartment and a cabin like this in the mountains somewhere near a trout stream. My friend told me about a similar company that builds small portable homes:

Some of them are crazy small, even for one person. But the ones comparable in size to the ESCAPE cabin seem to be cheaper.

My long term plan is at least 10 acres, ideally closer to 100, maybe as a getaway, maybe as a permanent abode.

Hopefully all set by the time I'm 50. Yeah, this is my 2nd career.

If you can get it set up on your early 30s, that's awesome. And while it's not for everyone, I would probably not aim for that much if I didn't have a family. I want to share it with them.

But it's nice to see others who enjoy some of the things I like too. Guns, cabins 😉

These cabins are built with 8*12 logs and very solid. Inexpensive too!

That requires me to be in a certain location. Sounds like a great deal though! Not pricey, hell I could buy one right now if I wanted to. The interior is simple but yet looks elegant. I actually kinda like it.

Here's my problem: I want to be on the move.

My wife's parents own 40 acres of absolutely beautiful rural land in the Sierra Nevada foothills, not far from Yosemite. Her uncle owns 40 acres next to it, is leisurely looking to sell eventually, and we've entertained the thought of buying it and someday making those 80 acres our permanent home. We haven't bought it yet. Among its many other issues, California's not exactly a retirement friendly state. Still. That place is beautiful. Maybe someday.

For now, it's a track home in the 'burbs.

I probably couldn't do California either even if I wanted to for that reason, unless I happen to marry rich or make some cash doing other non-clinical things.

You're still in the Navy, right?

Do you plan to stay in the area/state you're working or plan to move elsewhere when you go civilian?
