hello,

i recently discovered that i'm esophoric. i was wondering if my esophoria would interfere with doing ophthalmologic surgeries. should i look for a different career?

If your stereopsis is normal, then it's likely that you'll be fine. The only difficulty that you might encounter is "decompensation" of your phoria when looking through binocular microscopic systems (e.g. slit-lamp, operating microscope) ? this would give you double vision. There are ways of getting around this problem, however, and if you only have a small phoria, it is unlikely to affect you. It's very difficult to give definitive advice without further details - why not visit an optometrist or ophthalmologist for advice?
