I have started working on my personal statement. It is good, but I think it can be made much better. I was thinking about using an editing service like essayedge.com. Has anyone had any experience with them or similar services?

I guess Essayedge.com is o.k.; I never used them. I did start to pay for on similar service, but quickly realize that they were using a cookie-cutter strategy for my essay. Best advise is to revise, revise, and revise, and had as many people look at it to give feedback.

Take it to the English department at your school, and ask for any/every tutor they have, who is a pre-professional student, to read it.

That should be free and do just as well as any professional service.
